i made dh get a spade and wack it/kill it to put it out of its misery. tbh our cat is so lazy & fat i didn't think she had the killer instinct in her. i love mice, that is why i am in tears. i know the cat meant it as a gift but i feel sick. i love my cat but hate this side of cats. feel sick & so hurt, watching that poor mouse trying to run away whilst she towered over it, truly horrible :(

Leg of lamb! I'd rather that than a magpie Grin

Last week our littlest cat came in with a live mouse. Cue massive cat chasing, mouse dropping, us missing with a glass, cat recapturing etc, kids getting out of bed to see what all the noise was about, getting in the way, dog going crazy etc. I grabbed the cat and tried to force its jaws open and while doing so the mouse locked it's jaws on my thumb and gave me a really nasty bite! We got it out in the end and rescued it, but all sympathy for the mouse had well and truly gone by then! As I am pregnant I had to go to the doctor and get antibiotics for the mouse bite. Aggghhhh. Cats.

Well, it was partially the mouses fault too. It should have been more careful!

OP, if it's any consolation, my cat is nearly 14, and apart from insects, has only ever caught one tiny baby mouse (that we know of) and that was at the grand old age of 12!
I am scared of mice and the poor little thing was so tiny, I didn't see it in her mouth when she came in, until she was in. Cue me running outside and screaming for DH, who was upstairs inside, to sort it out!

ah thanks creme. she hasn't done it since but whever ever she comes in now having been outside when it is the evening/dark (she pops in and out but we have to let her in/out as we have no cat flap) i check her mouth by looking out of the window first :) . i got dh to sort it out too....i love mice, am not afraid of them, too upsetting the thought of killing it. lord knows whta i would have done if he hadn't been in, i guess i would have had to deal with it

I have checked every single time my cat has knocked to come in too since it happened almost a year ago! I think it's all you can do really, although I think she only managed to catch it cos it was so young.
