Oo-er! My kitten's tail is a bit bent!

Shock

Just noticed my 5 month old kitten's very tip of tail is bent. I am 100% sure it wasn't like that yesterday!

She's not going out yet as we are awaiting her neutering and she's tiny and I am scared of bully cat next door,no yelps from trapping it..I have not stood on her.

It is just the tip..about 2 inches is bent. She is fine, playing and eating and toileting fine. She lets me touch it,but she is licking it and 'nibbling' it.

Has she broken it? Is she ok? Will it always be like that now?

Sad

Still a wonky kitty Sparkling Grin

I have cancelled the vet appt on the advice of others' as she is not in any pain...right as rain.

One thing I have noticed...she is hanging it down more than usual, and I was worried she had no control of it,but at feed time she comes running with her tail upright (allbeit with the bendy end),so she can control it. Probably dropping it as it is a bit sore?

I honestly don't know how she's done it..but she climbs everywhere (window sills, bookcases) and is getting confident in jumping down,so maybe that's how.

Thanks for asking Smile

I would reckon that it's a bit sore so she's keeping it low (like if you've bruised your arm and you fling it about, the bruise sort of 'pulses'). But then when she hears food, she gets all giddy and forgets about the bruise and her tail shoots up.

Anyway, my rubbish musings aside, I'm super glad she's OK :)

PigletJohn · 21/03/2012 10:44

I had a cat who had his tail shut in a door when a kitten, as he got older it got more painful and he would chase and bite it, drawing blood. It troubled him a lot. Maybe it got arthritic.

Having been through that I would certainly go to the vet.

crazynanna · 21/03/2012 11:03

Pinot Smile thank you. Your 'musings' are really most important to me x.

Piglet Oh dear Shock Maybe I should reasses the vet visit after all

ooh Piglet :( Ooh and indeed err. How about ringing the vets, speaking to a nurse?

crazynanna · 21/03/2012 12:11

Yes good idea...will call the vet. Smile

I?ll put money on if you phone the vet they will suggest you take the cat in.

I do of course speak as someone who once went to the vet, with my mother, to establish if our cat had fleas. The vet asked to see the cat, and we told him we had left her at home as she did not like travelling.

Oh how the vet laughed.

Pinot · 21/03/2012 13:23

:o @ going to the vets on your own!

At my lovely vets you can get good advice from the nurse if you ask naicely enough. Though that could be because I was there sooooo much for a few weeks and they were unutterably bored of seeing my chubby face. Lesser of two evils innit.

Anyway, how is she?

Sparklingbrook · 22/03/2012 20:07

How's Kinky today?

crazynanna · 22/03/2012 20:41
Smile

She seems to be holding up her tail and swishing it a lot better!! Grin

I think Pinot was right...'twas just maybe bruised. The little nobbly bit is smaller, and the kink is not that much of a kink!!

I am soooo relieved.

I think it's ok Smile

Extra treat today for my Wonky Poppy x

That's great news. These cats just like to worry us don't they? Grin

Rollergirl1 · 22/03/2012 21:06

crazy: Glad Poppy is swishing a lot better. Sorry to hijack but how old is she? I seem to remember that our little treasures are of similar age. When are you thinking of doing the whole neutering thing? I am desperate to get Casper done as he is so desperate to go out. Is Poppy? Casper is going out in to the back garden for a spell each day with supervision. But he is crying and scratching at the back door all the time to go out and it's driving me nuts!

crazynanna · 22/03/2012 22:00

Hey Roller Smile
Poppy will be 6 months Mid April...and I have her booked in then. She is a very small petite girl and looks a lot younger.

She sits at the window all day,and looks out longingly ...and sits at the back door and meows at the cat upstairs when she's out...who just stares at her as if Poppy were some irritating toddler Grin

I am scared to let her out though...as she is sooo tiny, and we have a bully cat around who is a bastard Hmm

But I know she wants to go....

Pinot · 23/03/2012 09:09

crazynanna · 23/03/2012 09:26

Thank you lovely Smile

It is completely better now...not even a kink in the tail!

Pinot · 23/03/2012 09:56

She's a clever girl fixing herself so quickly! Bless her. Can you put up new pics so I can see how big she is now?

So glad to hear that Poppy's tail is almost back to full swishiness.

Pinot - I cannot believe your are not letting those kitties out properly yet!

Are we have a virtually party for their 1st Birthday? - a reconvening of the kitten quiche with cake and streamers - the kittens will love streamers.

And wine of course, for the grown ups.

CatloverinOz · 21/04/2020 10:28

Hi all, my cat had a litter last week one kitten found today with kink in its tail. I tool it to the vet and it has a broken bone in its tail - they have strapped it and we will review in a week

Want2beme · 21/04/2020 11:06

CatloverinOz this is an old thread. You can start your own, if you'd like to?

TroysMammy · 21/04/2020 13:43

I had a cat whose tail had what could only be described as a little hook at the end. I had him from 9 weeks old and know there was no trauma.

TroysMammy · 21/04/2020 13:45

Didn't realise this zombie thread has been resurrected from 2012!!!!!!!??
