Cat scratched baby!!

My cat has just scratched my 19 week old babies foot! She was asleep next to me and DS was also asleep on me. He kicked out unexpectedly and woke her up. Her automatic reaction was to hiss and scratch! She's made him bleed a little bit. Is he going to be ok? I have heard so many horror stories!

I feel really guilty now too on the cat.. I pushed her off the setee and told her she was naughty but it wasn't really her fault..

Somebody reassure me :(

I wouldn't worry about the scratch, but why was your cats reaction to hiss and scratch, needs her bad temper sorted out!

She was a stray. She's a really good natured cat until you make her jump. We've got 2 Toms cats too and she doesn't like them getting too close to her. I think she thought it was one of them.. My DS didn't even wake up. So it wasn't really meant.. Thank you for responding..

I would scratch and hiss if someone suddenly kicked me when I was sleeping.

Your cat did nothing wrong LST. Just endeavor to keep sleeping babies and sleeping cats in seperate beds from now on.

What horror stories have you heard? Confused

We grew up with my Gran's cat Lucy, whose name was very quickly changed to Lucifer, for obvious reasons. Bar one tiny little scar by sister's eye we are unscathed, it was not for want of trying on Lucy's part, however Grin

My girls called Lucy too!! She is a terrible tortie tbf! She isn't a fan of my other 2 either. We were all sharing the sofa. She will have to be removed next time.
My other two wouldn't batter an eyelid but she's a but different. She's been in the wars I think.

My mum tells me you can get septicaemia from cat scratches.. I'm being a little OTT then I take it? Blush

Oh and the cat wil forgive you too. Eventually. Especially if you lovingly hand feed her freshly caught salmon later on. She won't forget though, oh no. Cats don't forget

Wink

The cat will be fine really and will be snuggling on your lap again by tonight.

Well... DS is in bed now and she's already here! Lol.

x-posts. I have never heard of septicimia being caught from a cat scratch before and I've been scratched by dozens of cats. If it happens it is very, very rare and not something I would worry about.

LST · 14/03/2012 22:43

Thank you! I do worry a little too much lol. I've had plenty of scratches. My boys can get a bit playful at timesHmm

Theoretically you can get septicaemia from any break in the skin. It's not a standalone illness.

Seriously though she's a tortie so bound to be a little madam.

I'm sure baby will be fine. She'll probably avoid sleeping by him for a while though.

LST · 15/03/2012 16:54

He's ok this morning anyway. She's forgiven him too I think. She looked guilty after she'd done the deed!
