Best cat food?

I've seen in a few threads that Hills Science Plan is not particularly recommended. That's what my 2 cats are on (fallen for vet's spiel?).

They have the adult light biscuits in the morning and half an adult light pouch each with hairball control biscuits in the evening. The latter does seem to have stopped my boy retching so much.

They are almost 4yr old Burmese/Bengal cross.

Is there something better?

My precious pussy cat will only eat whiskas and is 18 and going strong. He used to have whiskas biscuits but now has senior food as it is better for him in his old age.

your boy might be retching because with an all dry diet cats need to drink a lot more water, my 4 get butchers classic meat in jelly in a morning and purely biscuits from pets at home in an afternoon, and all of them like this combo the wet food provides most of thier water and the dry for thier teeth, and non of mine retch up hairballs, because the hair goes through them with the wet food,

BuffyFairy · 07/03/2012 22:25

They do get some wet food, half a pouch each. They won't eat a whole pouch, seem to like the mix!

Do you think they need more than 1/2?

My boy seems to ingest more hair than my girl cat does.

They do sometimes get whiskas or felix but will only eat it for a few days before they start turning their noses up.

Thanks for the replies.

mine have all gone off felix and whiskas i think they have changed the recipe as other people have said the same thing, mine like kit e kat occasionally if asda have run out of butchers, but only for a few days, mine get a 1/4 of a tin of wet food a day, this is the equivelant of two pouches, i dont know about hills but the rescue center i work at dosent use it only the specialised ones like renal, and SD, thier biscuits always look dead bland to me,

ragged · 08/03/2012 18:14

Mine turn their noses up at Whiskas, much prefer Sainsbury's cheapo.

Taffeta · 08/03/2012 18:16

Our cat gets Whiskas favourites in jelly ( fussy cat )pouches and Hills Science Plan chicken oral dry food ( he only eats a little of this when the wet food is finished )

He won't eat other flavours or in gravy ones or Felix or anything else I've tried when its on offer.

He had roast beef and gravy on his birthday the other week.

Mrsrobertduvall · 08/03/2012 18:18

Mine just has Gocat dried food.
No wet food at all.

BuffyFairy · 08/03/2012 19:24

Hills biscuits do look bland!

It's so expensive and it makes me wonder if it is worth it.

I have four cats two of which are Maine Coons and they all eat Royal Canin Maine Coon 31 which is large dry kibbles and they absolutely love it. I've taken them off wet food but they still get oily fish once or twice a week as a treat.

We have an elderly Maine Coon, and she loves Costco own brand dried food - apparently it's similar to Iams. She also adores the Sheba domes - especially the tuna/prawn and the chicken one. However, apart from those, you can bet that whatever you buy in quantity she will immediately take a dislike to, and, at best, only eat the jelly.

Fluffycloudland77 · 13/03/2012 15:37

Bengals can be funny with their tummies, ours is cereal free.

Dillie · 13/03/2012 15:46

You should check out sites like zoo plus. My lot are fed on cosma, Grau, porta21 and Bozita. Plus a little James wellbeloved as one of my girls gets quiet annoyed if she doesn't have her kibble!!

Unfortunately you can't get this stuff in the shops, but I was at my wits end with food. Hills made my girls sick, and anything else upsets their tums!

I turned to this site, and the food on there is reasonably priced and good quality stuff. Delivery is reliable too. You need a signature, but I get it delivered to my work.

Been using zoo plus for just over a year now, and my cats tummies are a lot happier!!

blighter · 16/03/2012 21:52

my cat seems to only like the jelly, she licks it off the pouch food and leaves the chunks of meat to dry out and get thrown away, she seems to prefer dried BUT if i call 'TUNA' she runs, an i mean runs, she loves her tuna chunks :) (from tin, half for her, half for dd's lunch!)

blighter · 16/03/2012 21:53

this is normal tuna from a tin, not cat food, dd doesn't get cat food to take to school :D
