Kitten neutered and feeling very sorry for herself

Our kitten was neutered 4 days ago and still is not back to her normal mad self. She is very quiet and sleepy, isn't eating much and is generally fed up! Is this normal? She has a collar on which isn't helping but if we take it off she immediately licks her stiches. How long does recovery normally take?

I think ours took about a week but had no collar.

Paint the fur around the wound with essential oil, anything pungent will do and take the collar off.

She will go to lick the wound but the smell will put her off.

I've kept legs bandaged all week doing this and did it to our cats after castration.

The vet is very polite and doesnt mention that the cat smells of lavender.

Poor girl. Haven't the stitches healed by now? hopefully she'll have her collar off today.

Maxheadroom · 15/02/2012 17:48

She took a turn for the worse last night and we ended up taking her to the vets. She had a really high temperature - no wonder she was not herself. A bit better today but the vet wants to see her again later.

Poor little thing. I hope she gets better soon.

Ignore my suggestion about taking the collar off then Blush
Sometimes pets are more of a worry than children. They can't tell you where it hurts and, unless you've got a rectal thermometer you can't see whether they've got a fever.

You're right they are more of a worry and being so little and helpless your maternal impulse kicks in! Her temperature has not come down so another lot of injections and tablets from the vets. Got to go back Friday, wish I'd sorted out her insurance earlier.

No one tells you about the guilt. Oh the guilt when their ill and you feel awful that you didn't notice sooner. They are tough though, I've had rungs survive cat flu.

Fluffycloudland77 · 16/02/2012 07:44

Runts even. iPhones don't like the word runts for some reason.

Ours was like this , it was the collar making her sad Sad. If you are worried call the vet , ours are happy to check then free of charge after a procedure .

Poor kitty. Hope she is feeling better today.

Ours was ill for a week after getting her op, she wouldnt eat, was vomitting all the time, turns out she had wind she suffered for a week, we were taking her to the vet every 2 days and he was feeling her a certain way and she made a funny noise and he said shes full of gas we just had to let it pass, on the 7th morning she woke up and was starving as if nothing had been wrong!
