Integrating an adult male with 2 other adult males

My missing cat has turned up after a 1.5 year absence. In the meantime I rehoused another adult male (as a kitten) and now I have the situation of trying to make the 3 of them get along. I tried putting the newcomer in the spare room but he went nuts in the night so I let him out. Cue one house smelling of cat wee and 3 aggravated cats this morning and not much sleep for anyone! The newcomer is one of the existing cats brother but despite this it's very tense to say the least. Any room I put him in he rips up the carpet and howls his head off.

This morning I am wondering whether this has been a huge mistake and I should return him to the lady who's been looking after him for the last year or so. I know she's happy to take him back and this morning after the night we've had looks a tempting option.

Any advice?

How wonderful to have your missing cat turn up! Grin

He is probably completely confused, poor thing, because he is back where he used to be but there is someone in HIS PLACE. I would just keep them separate for a bit longer, maybe have someone sleep in the spare room with him to keep him calmer for a week or so and try to introduce gradually. And horrid as it is, clean up the cat wee as soon as you can or they'll get a taste for going there.

Feliway is always recommended but I found it utterly ineffective when introducing my second adult male to my first (both cats). They didn't go that nuts as new boy was scared and hid for a few days, but they've never got along that well and there is lots of scrapping. I would never, ever get rid of either but I don't think I'd have 2 cats again unless they came as a pair.

It seems bittersweet actually! I was so happy when I found out as I never expected to find him. The lady who dropped him off yesterday was quite devastated and I felt bad for taking her off him! She had been looking after him for 1.5 years and never realised he was microchipped until it was accidentally discovered on Wednesday. He had gone 4 miles from here (was accidentally let out by someone not long after we moved house)

I brought him in with us last night and he was still nuts...roaming around yowling and ripping up the carpet which is why I let him out. I've tried putting him away again but he goes nuts and on a rampage so I don't know what to do now for the best.

I have been going around sniffing for cat wee and can't yet locate the source grr. Feel like I've been on a rollercoaster of emotions since wednesday and that with sleep deprivation feel so confused!

He doesn't see to remember me or my son and it all feels very surreal.

Could you give him back to the lady who took him in?
