minimum is 8 weeks i guess. Waiting till their weaned would take too long. Our cat had kittens and we kept and he was 24 weeks before mummy started kicking him in the face to wean him! I kept all my kittens till they were at least 12 weeks.

Miaow, fruitshoots . Actually I don't think I'm your cat, a stinky fluffy cat was just the first thing I clapped eyes on while trying to think of a user name. Bet mine smells worse than yours when he's on form...

My friend got a kitten from someone who lied about their age. Consequently kitten was weaned too early and poor little digestive system failed to develop as it should have been able to. Had tummy problems all its life - totally unnecessary! :(

GIMME THEM NOW! :) :) :)

Oooh lovely love, yes yes take them or else they'll end up with a narsty barstard owner.

At 6 weeks they'll be on solid food anyway so they'll need kitten pouches mushed up with a fork available 24/7 and a bowl of clean water. They may need alot of help with litter training though so prepare yourself!

I can't bear the thought of someone not as caring taking them You'll do great!

Ideally, you want some Kitten Milk powder from PetsAtHome to mix with the mushed up food. It costs about £7 but you'll only need one tub.

Litter tray is easiest with a very small tray and wood based litter as it smells bland. Then when they wee elsewhere (floor etc) soak it up in cotton wool balls, put these in the litter tray so they start to associate wee smell with the box. Then let them play/scatter litter everywhere and they'll associate the box with happy relaxed feelings....and voilá, little kitten wee in the box SQUEEEEEEEE

At 6 weeks I'd rather like you to have a hot water bottle wrapped in a thick, tight towel so they have a warm 'nest' to sleep in. A laundry basket on its side is great for this, with the heated towel in it and they can get in and out just by walking, no need to jump. If you can put your Tshirt that you've worn over the top of the towel that'd be ace as it'll smell like you and that'll soothe them too. They'll need to be in your room at nighttime (well not need, but would be best for them if you can do this. I am a right soppy tart)

I am so jealous! And happy for you!

Thanks Pinot, there's some great stuff there. My vet echoed what you said about milk and mushed up food.

The cotton ball trick sounds great well not sounds great, but ykwim.

When you say small litter tray do you mean shallow or small in size?

Apparently they were 6wo on Saturday and I am getting them on Thursday so almost 7wo. Straight to the vets on Friday morning for check over, feas, worming and sexing Shock.

I have dropped off a blanket for them to sleep on for the next couple of nights and did try to ask if I could have the cat while they were away. It apppears they're only away for 3 nights and the neighbour has done it before, they wouldn't hear of me having her - but there are big language difficulties, so I tried my hardest I could but no way. Sad

I have decided to give them some money and my vet's business card, so maybe that will help.

Oh I thought of something...

My teeny one was in the cupboard under the stairs for the first few weeks, it was supposed to be for the first few days until I was sure my existing cat wouldn't eat her, lol, but after watching what she got up to I extended it because I felt much happier with her in an enclosed space when I wasn't there.

My older cat, I got at 13 weeks and I never worried about what she got up to when I wasn't around, but the kitten had to be rescued constantly, she got stuck in high places and trapped under things...the older one climbed and played and explored as a kitten, but she seemed better able to judge what was safe.

She was only in there when I was in bed or out and she had a bed, litter tray, food and water in there - you might want to think if you've got somewhere you can contain them a bit like that.

Oh no, I'm so sorry. More for the kittens than you in a way - just hope they've gone to someone who knows they may be a bit needy - hopefully you can find some from a more responsible source.

Fuck! Really? That's rubbish. Christ I hope they've gone to a decent home. The breeders sound like arseholes.

Have you got your money back?? Angry

Sad

Hadn't given them any money yet, but I can pop round and get my blanket if I want. Hmm

I am also in search of a kitten for DD. She's desperate for one for her birthday I am worried about our older cat tolerating it but I am coming round to the idea.
