Pet Grief in a 7 year old

My grandson's other nanna has just had her old girl mauled to death by her next door's dog Sad
Before DD had a chance to sit him down and tell him...he overheard her telling me on the phone and is now distraught! He only visits nanna Ang now and again as she recently moved to Dover...but before that he saw Marleycat regularly and loved her to pieces. It is his first experience of death.

I am going down there in an hour to see them and I really don't know how to approach it/what to say. I have just ordered a book off Amazon about losing a pet...but I don't know how to approach it.

Any tips for a nervous crazynanna Sad

In our family, we say that cats go to the great cat picnic in the sky. The most sensible cat drives the car (it's an old-fashioned open top car) and all the cats sit on the seats. There's a big picnic hamper on the back full of all their favourite treats. When they get to their favourite picnic spot, they unpack their treats and eat their picnic, then the old cats curl up for a snooze in the sun, and the young ones play. They all reminisce about the good times on earth and how much they loved living with us. It's strangely comforting, it's nice to imagine your cat joining the honourable roster of previous much-loved pets.

This is ours but we got it from the local garden centre and it certainly wasn't as much as £26. Smile

Oh yes Sparkling I think we will get one for nanna Ang. I will show dd the pic.

We have a garden centre right around the corner from dd's and I will let my grandson choose it.

Thank you it is a brilliant idea Smile

Thanks crazynanna! I'm so sorry to hear about the way poor old Marleycat went - that's awful.

crazynana glad the chocolate therapy worked! Grin

Bluestocking Love the kitty picnic, my DD's will love that.

Sparkling I'm not one for "naice" garden ornaments usually but I love the simple lines of that cat one! Smile

I know what you mean *bossy8. I am not a huge fan of garden ornaments but it is lovely-it's kind of smiling. Smile

Bossy even.
