Aggressive cat

I have a 7 month old male cat. Generally he is ok with typical crazy kitten type behaviour. I am worried about his aggression though. He gets riled pretty quickly and will bite and scratch and it really hurts! He will do this suddenly when he looks quite calm. There does not seem to be any pattern with it. he does not hiss or spit and there is no warning that he is about to attack. We play with him alot but I am now beginning to wonder if the play was a bit too rough in the early days. I know my husband would really mess about with him. He has not had his knackers off yet. Any thoughts on this and what to do?

He needs to have his 'knackers' off especially if he's going outside.

I did wonder. He is not gong outside yet. I have had male cats in the past and they have never been as bad as this one is even before they had their bots off. I just hope WE havent created this problem becuae of over stimulation or rough play. i really hope it is his maleness taking over rather than anything else Confused

I think you should have a chat with the Vet, and get the cat done. It will probably make the difference.

My cousin has a male cat who kept going into neighbours houses and attacking their cats. He used to call him "Asbo cat" as so many people were complaining about him! He was neutered a couple of months ago, and is now completely different- cuddly and affectionate and hasn't had a fight since.

We have a similar cat. We had his neutered when he was 6 months old but that actually didn't stop him... but I think DD winds him up, sometimes literally by turning his tail in a winding motion. Then she cries when he bites and scratches her... he still bites DH and me but we tell him "no" and if he is really vicious he gets "time out" in the bathroom. Lol.

We had a real old cat before this, and had no idea how energetic kittens could be. BTW, Battersea cats and dogs home doesn't recommend letting them out before they are one 1 year old. So I've stopped feeling guilty about keeping cat inside.

Anyway you are not alone. Get him neutered, and hope he calms down when he's over one year old and can go out.

I have two cats both brought up by me since kittens. Beautiful moggy girl would never bite or scratch anyone if she gets upset she salivates - nice. Arrogant Posh boy lets children stroke him without batting an eyelid and nothing nasty. Adults however, are a different matter you stroke him and he purrs then he suddenly bites and scratched hard. I' m a vet I can't explain why he is like this and to be quite frank I mostly ignore him - he's DH's evil cat.
