Going away for the weekend - how often should neighbours come in?

We've had our georgeous new kitten for about 3 weeks and and we are away for the Xmas weekend. My much more experienced cat owner friend keeps reminding me how easy cats are and easily stay at home over a weekend.

I have a couple of neighbours lined up to come in and feed her etc. How often should I ask them to come in and what should they do exactly? Just give her a sachet of food and change her water? How long can I leave dry food down? What about her litter tray? I feel bad asking people to deal with her litter tray, it seems like a big ask.

Well, I don't know anything about cats but I am look after my neighbour's cats when she is away & this is what she's told me to do: go in twice a day, change their water once a day & top up their dry food twice a day and do their litter trays twice a day. She uses clumping litter so you just hook out the solids with a big fork thingy. They usually have wet food as well as pouches but neighbour says they're fine just on the biscuits for a bit.

I also open the curtains am & close them pm so the little dears aren't in the dark all day.

I wouldn't worry about the litter tray thing - neighbours won't mind.

Are you paying them? I would suggest £5 a day, then you won't mind so much about asking.

I would also ask them to spend a bit of time with her to keep her company, especially if she's still quite young.
