Issue with payment for cat sitting

My friend was in a panic a couple of months ago: her DD wanted her to look after her cat for 2 weeks over Christmas but discovered there would be problems with the cat versus her other animals. A cattery was out of the question for the PFB (cat).

I do not have any pets but agreed to board the animal myself. She asked using the words "Please, please can you have the cat to stay, DD will pay you."

I wasn't really bothered about payment until I realised that I wouldn't be able to do several things over Christmas that I'd planned on account of having this pet. I figured a bit of inconvenience money might be in order especially since I discovered the DD is earning around £100K per year

But my suggestion of a fee of one-third of average cattery fees (£3.33 per day as all food and litter will be provided by the owner) seems to have gone down like a lead balloon - friend probably did not tell DD that she said I'd be paid! I am not being unreasonable am I?

I think you are being very reasonable. If the DD doesn't know anything about it then the DM should really pay you since that was part of the original bargain. When we go away we have someone pop in twice a day. It costs £8 per visit in a weekday and £12 per visit on a weekend so using you has saved her about £200. Maybe you should charge her that!
