Babies and pooing cats

Hi

I'm 18 weeks pg with my first. We've got a 4 year old inside female cat, who we adopted a couple of years ago. She's never been outside and we stay in a top-floor flat, so putting her in and out would be difficult.

Basically, our cat occasionally goes in a sulk and poos on the carpet. It's not very often usually, but she's done it 3 times since I got pg - once when we went away overnight, once when we started clearing the spare room, and once for no discernable reason.

I've had an ectopic, a miscarriage and a number of failed IVFs, so the cat's used to it just being me and DH, sleeps in our bed, gets a lot of attention and is probably just a wee bit spoiled.

I'm a bit worried that when the sprog puts in an appearance the cat will be extremely put out and step up the random crapping action.

I love the cat to bits and there's no question of re-homing her, but is there anything we can do to stop her guerilla shiting in the immediate term, and also anything we can do to make her transition from being a DINK cat to a family cat easier on everyone?

You could try feliway- comes as a diffuser that you plug in and is designed to calm cats via pheremones that we can't smell. Sounds like your cat has a few anxiety problems, and yes, a new baby could make it worse, so it's a good idea to try to sort it now, if possible! Good luck!
