Cats are pointless...

Pointless creatures I tell you - oh it's all well and good when they bring back meeses and what have you, but are they any use when there's one in the house? Hmm

I agree - our cat used to pointedly ignore the various beasties that sometimes came crawling into the house, then go back to chasing olives.

I know they catch things outside, I've rescued no end of creatures, not to mention the random inanimate objects they hunt and bring back (I mean, what sort of cat brings in sticks?)

They found one in the house, what do they do? just stare at it and then spend ages pretending they might catch it if only it came back Hmm

Ah you need a dog then. Our cats brings their mice home and then the dog eats them. He has no truck with the playing part of the game, just wanders in and munch munch and it's gone. I can't quite figure out why the cat's still bring them in, but t makes him happy Grin

To be honest I'd really rather they left the local wildlife well alone, we've never had cats that were anythign other than totally inept on the hunting front.

Oh I'd be less upset if they weren't hunters at all, that would suit me fine. I'm objecting to the fact that I have to deal with them hunting and the one time it might have been useful, they're of no good to me Angry lol

I had a dog, and pet mice - he used to try and lick them :) I can't see that he'd be much better than the cats, rofl...though at least he had the decency of not making me think he might be good at catching things in my house that shouldn't be there.

I'm now trying to work out where to stick my humane trap where if the mouse goes in it won't spend all night being terrorised.

They do this deliberately, though. It's part of being a cat. They want to remind us that effectively we only evolved as a species so that we could:

  • build warm houses for them to live in (they could have done this themselves, but couldn't be arsed)
  • open pouches of food for them (likewise)
  • spoil them outrageously because It Is Their Right.

The Ancient Egyptians knew what they were doing; they were just bowing to the inevitable. Cats rule, they know it and we know it.

Yes, there is that...

I feel I'm getting a raw deal though, they eat better food than my children Blush, I'm often found sitting exceptionally still so as not to disturb a sleeping cat, even when my leg's gone dead and I really want to move, my radiator doesn't heat my room because they like yon radiator beds that suck up all the heat, I fill my house with cat climbing frames and a Christmas tree that doubles as one, I open doors at their mildest whim...

I wouldn't have thought scaring away one wee mouse would be too much in return tbh

They are a great companion. I gre up with cats and am back at mums with five of them and love them all to bits. They give you so much love and affection. Last summer one of our cats (buster) caught a mouse (they live in my mums shed with the rabbits) and he caught this poor little mouse except when he dropped it, it was still alive and because it moved, he jumped as if electrocuted back from it and looked at me enough to say "it moved, mum, but it moved", he was ever so funny. I ended up putting the little thing bless it back in the shed to all its friends.... Wasnt the first, wont be the last. x
