My poor cat has come in from outside and is limping, not using his foot/paw at all, i have tried to have a look and it seems he has something scuck in his leg just above the back pad, i cant make out what it is (cat wont stay still), he's looking very sorry for himself Sad. Will he be ok until the morning if i keep him shut in? (he stays in at night anyway). If someone would help me hold him down whilst i look at his paw i could probably pull whatever it is out but dh is not a cat person and is refussing to help Sad.

Keep him contained and as long as he is not bleeding he will be fine. I always advise against pulling things out as sometimes they do more damage on the way out than on the way in. Just offer water overnight no food in case the vets need to knock him out in the morning.

tell your dh to get a fucking grip!

seriously, he is refusing to help you help the cat who is in pain, because he isn't a cat person??

have you tried wrapping your cat in a towel? I can do pretty much anything to my cats if I bundle them firmly in a big bath towel with the necessary bit of cat poking out!

Don't pull anything out of his paw unless it is obviously only just slightly embedded. Is there any bleeding?

I'd follow lizcats advice shes a vet.

What if you pull it out but leave some behind? the last time I rang the emergency line at my vet they only really wanted to see collapsed cats.

Dh does need to get a grip, he says there my animals so i have to deal with them.

Luckily the cat is very soppy and will let me have a little look but wriggles when i poke around, from what i can see there is deffently something in there, looks a bit like a claw from another cat (maybe) or something bigger. He's curled up sleeping so is not in a lot of pain (only when he tries to walk). I will keep him in and take him to the vets in the morning.

Fluffycloud you've blown my cover. Seriously I would and do do this with my own cats as my DH is a total wuss and can not help in any way so I have to wait for the lovely nurses to be help me.

Thanks Lizcat, luckily he has eaten loads today so wont notice if i dont feed him tonight, will keep him in the warm and phone the vet in the morning.

Poor cat, it was a cats tooth inbedded in his leg, it had got infected so caused his leg to swell, vet has given him antibiotics and pain killers, have a feeling i will have to go back to the vets to get him a collar later as he's licking it a bit too much Sad.

Really anoyed as my neighbours cats keep attacking him as they have not been neutered, my cat is a bit of a wimp and can't really stick up for himself, why cant people neuter their cats?

Anyway, luckily my cat was very good at the vets and let the vet remove the tooth and puss from its leg so has saved me a fortune, still cost me a bit though as had to get flea treatment, not what i need just before christmas Sad.

I paint the fur around injuries with essential oils, I don't think it matters which one.

The cat won't lick it with oil there and most of us have a bottle of lavender or tea tree oil in the house. I never let it get on his skin, but he goes to lick the area and then pulls his head back.

Great idea fluffy, will give it a go, he's now gone to bed and is feeling sorry for himself Sad.

Glad to hear he is going to be okay. There seems to be a lot of upset in cat world currently we are seeing a very high number of abscesses currently.
