So what do you do when you can't agree on a name?

We can't agree!

She's a mixture of black/tortie with white chest, tummy and feet.

Our short list is

Amber
Cookie
Cupcake
Candy
Millie
Toffee

But there isn't a name that all my 3 dds like!

However dd's friend has just come up with ......Topaz - I quite like it.

Any thoughts?

Which one will you feel least embarrassed calling out at 10pm whilst walking around rattling a box of biscuits whilst the neighbours peek out at you?

They call the cats name with the surname in our vets, thank god he isnt called cupcake.

suzi2 · 09/12/2011 23:10

Our kitten is Cookie. Wouldn't have been my choice as I prefer human names for cats. With our surname it'll sound daft at the vets. Last cat was Kirk and it seemed even more daft to have a proper human name at the vets lol

I'd go for Millie from that list.

I'd say if the DCs can't agree then you pick a name that you want :) We had a similar problem when I was younger in my family, so my mum made the decision meaning neither me or my sister was 'favoured'. Either that or suggest after a character in a book/film they all like? Would that go down better?

4c4good · 14/12/2011 19:06

You didn't ask for suggestions I know but I think a cat's name far too important to be chosen like that. YOU must love the name as I'll bet you will be the one who becomes closest to her.

I also prefer proper names and I absolutely join you with a veto on cookie and - wtf - cupcake??? Shock Not too keen on the semi precious stones theme either.

I suggest

Dora
Mabel
Polly
Lily
Lucy

Or speaking of vetoes and europe in the headlines- what about Angela (or Angelina)

Bear in mind that sometimes a name will become apparent when you have known her for a while. Don't rush to a decision till you know herr. But I'll guarantee no cat would let you know, however subtly, that her secret name is -cupcake.

Redrubyblues · 14/12/2011 19:09

I have a Mabel who is a tabby. I got caught out by the neighbours calling out her nickname. Tigerfeet.

Xmas Blush

The shame is still there.

Choose wisely.

Redrubyblues · 14/12/2011 19:12

Amber is just lovely.

GalaxyAddict · 14/12/2011 19:37

Sounds like a mirror image of my little naughty tortie who is called Maisey.

4c4good · 14/12/2011 21:39

I've also wanted to call a cat Claud or Claudia too.

Rollergirl1 · 15/12/2011 20:54

If you like the idea of a colour theme then you could also try Butterscotch and Fudge.

I am also of the persuasion of giving them proper names. But I have been lucky enough that I have been able to have a nod to his colour but also use a proper name. We have a silver tabby that we have named Casper, as in the friendly ghost.

Dancergirl · 21/12/2011 22:09

She is named......

....

STAR Smile

We all like it (well nearly for some of us!) and dd3 loves singing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star to her!

we could not agree on a name for our kitten, and in the meantime my ds (then 5) referred to her as the kitten. She soon latched on to that name and as this was all she would answer to, that is moniker! She is now 6 and in no way shape or form resembles a kitten. We have a 3 week puppy and desperately trying to agree a name! Out of your list I really like cupcake x

sashh · 22/12/2011 04:18

write all the names on seperate bits of paper - put them on the floor and see which one she sits on thereby picking her own name
