Much loved family cat is missing

He hasn't been home since yesterday morning. He has never stayed out all night before and is always home to greet the DCs after school. He's such a part of family life that he trots upstairs with the DCs at bedtime and settles down in his basket on the landing between their bedroom doors.

He's only just over a year old, I can't bear to think he's gone. DD (8) worships him and will be inconsolable. He is microchipped but came home collarless on Wednesday so isn't wearing one now.

Positive thoughts please to bring him home to us!!!

If he was bought in they would have checked for a chip straightaway and phoned you.

Did they know which vet?

I took a cat off a very busy A road recently ( I like to dodge death at 8.45 in the morning) and rang the council, they said they scan for chips and contact owners.

Are your details up to date? I'm with pet scan and you update online with them.

Just had the call from a vet practice in the next town. My poor boy was knocked down by a car last week and died shortly after arriving at the surgery. SadSadSad

Can't believe we have lost both these cats within a year. So sad, they were such wonderful animals - really a part of our family.

Oh what sad news. Sad. At least you know now but how awful.

Sparklingbrook · 29/11/2011 18:28

Seaweed, I am so sorry. I was holding out for a happy ending for you. At least now you know for sure what has happened. Sad

When mine went missing it was the not knowing that really ate away at me. She was found dead but I was relieved we had found out, rather than forever wondering.

Big hug to you and your family. x

crazynanna · 29/11/2011 18:38

Oh no Seaweed I am so sorry Sad Poor lad Sad I hope he didn't suffer I really do Sad

Afrikasmum · 29/11/2011 18:53

Don't let cats out overnight. If you must let them out, bring them in at dark. Nicest scenariou is that someone she made friends with has taken him/her home with them. Contact your local CatsProtecton League. They have a lost and found section and you can put a photo and ad on there. ALWAYS microchip an dput a collar on.

Sparklingbrook · 29/11/2011 18:55

Afrikasmum please read the whole thread. Sad

Fluffycloudland77 · 29/11/2011 20:32

Oh I am so so sorry it was your boy, I cant believe they didnt phone straightaway. Your poor children.

topknob · 29/11/2011 20:36

I am sorry x

SeaweedNK · 29/11/2011 20:47

Thanks all. I haven't told the DCs yet. DD has a very special school trip tomorrow that she been looking forward to for a whole year. She is flying with excitement and I just can't tell her now. She has convinced herself that the cat has gone on an adventure seeking voles (his favourite prey) in far off places. She saw the Arctic voles on Frozen Planet last week and decided cat had gone there to hunt. Would it be really wrong to let go on thinking this? She was just so upset when her cat died at just 6 months old and she has been adamant that this one is still alive. It feels wrong not to tell her the truth though ...

I'm very sorry, what terrible news. :(

crazynanna · 29/11/2011 20:49

Leave it until the next day,Seaweed. Let her have her day x

follyfoot · 29/11/2011 20:55

Oh seaweed, so sorry to read this. Poor you and your family Sad I suppose you can at least grieve for your lovely boy as opposed to that dreadful gnawing worry of not knowing.

Re your DD, my parents did not tell me when my cat was knocked down and died. For years I carried a hope that he would be found, until someone told me that he had died. I was very upset about being lied to and for all the time spent hoping he might return. On balance, maybe the truth, after the trip, would be for the best?

Thinking about you x

Lilyloo · 29/11/2011 20:59

I would let her have her trip but then tell her , i think she does need to know what has happened.
Am very sorry Sad

teenyweenytadpole · 10/12/2011 22:56

So sorry to hear your news - our lovely cat is also missing, we have done lots of walking round/calling, posters and flyers, I have reported him missing to the microchip people. He has been through a lot, almost died after being hit by a car a couple of years ago and has moved house with us several times. Sadly we think he has gone because we got a new kitten a few weeks ago - he put up with her for three weeks but don't think he was really happy. He didn't come in for his tea about 10 days ago and we haven't seen him since. My DD is devastated. Sadly we also lost another cat (his sister!) a few years ago - not knowing what happened to her has been the worst thing. So sorry to hear your news and I hope your kids are ok. XXX
