Can my Moggie be dementing?

My treasured cat will be 15 Christmas Eve. When I say treasured, we're not exactly 'close'. We have an 'understanding'. She's never been a lap magnet, isn't cuddly, prefers the great outdoors to home comforts etc. I adore her just the way she is however.

Lately, she's become more skittish than normal. Calls to come in, but darts straight out, more or less. Sometimes I feel she looks at me like she's never seen me before Sad. I did wonder whether she's starting to develop dementia or something? She's always had extremely good health - never a problem in fact, never an illness.

Is dementia at all possible?

I think it's a possibility. How is she when she does come in? Is she relaxed, or does it all seem alien to her? My elderly cat went a bit daft. Not totally, but he was clearly either having some sort of senior moments.

Thanks suzi2

She settles on the settee (if the younger one's are away in bed) and even then she's purring loudly and eyes darting - never really settles. If the DC are about then she usually stays outside, or goes inside somewhere to hide. Other times, she's in the house, wandering and yowling to me, like she's lost something.

She's looking scraggy this week actually, perhaps another worming session is nigh. Nearly 15, and not one grey hair yet.

My Moggie is awesome. Batty, but awesome.

My old cat had dementia for just over two years prior to his death. He was very vocal and he paced across the back of the couch constantly. He also looked scraggy as he stopped cleaning himself so much. Sounds a bit like what you are describing?
We had to keep him indoors as he started to get lost plus he was nearly blind with cataracts (too old to have them removed safely). Apart from that he seemed happy enough in himself. We got medication from the vet that really worked for him but vet said that for a lot of cats it did'nt work. We knew it worked as he started trying to have his wicked way with jumpers and stopped shitting in the bath.
He eventually had some mild strokes that he bounced back from. Then last June he had a massive one that led to his death. I miss the old git so much!
