Shes barely drunk a drop. I've mixed her biscuits with milk and water and she's taking in some fluid like that but this morning I was so worried for her that I resorted to drip feeding her by sucking water into a straw and then holding her mouth open and dripping it slowly down her throat. I used 3 straw fulls and she seems bouncier for it

How old is she? Is she physically able to lap liquid?

Fluffycloudland77 · 06/11/2011 14:35

They get most of their water from wet food.

She's just on 8 weeks.

She's eating plenty of wet food so hopefully its alright. She seems quite healthy as far as I can tell (climbing bouncing, using litter tray)

Cats evolved from desert animals, so tend not to drink water as much as other mammals, but get most of their fluids from food as Fluffy said.

Mixing some water with biscuits sounds okay, leave the milk though, cow's milk can upset their tummies, it's too rich for them.

I can honestly say I've never ever in 15 years seen my cat drink any liquid, either water or milk. She doesn't really go out either. It's just that she gets wet food and I think they were desert animals originally.

x post Bertie!

thank you for the reassurance. As she sees healthy I won't worry about it.

Loving the idea of drip feeding a cat. That's dedication for you.
Mine tend not to drink out of their lovely shiney bowl, it's the pond or a puddle for them [contrary bastards]. They are exclusively dry food fed.

Agree about not giving milk. One of my cats was found in a terrible state before we adopted him, with burns down the backs of his legs from terrible diarrheoa due to a lactose intolerance. He had to be treated at the animal hospital.

She's been trying to feed off our other cat who's now about 18 months. she's not going to get far he's male!! Very funny to see the puzzled look on her face as she nuzzles desperately at his tummy and he just lies there stretched out asleep Grin

Becasue she's on wet food, she probably doesn't need to take in much more fluid.

My 2 older cats have dried food diets with an occasional pouch and free access to a water bowl, dripping tap and toilet bowl. On the days they have the wet food, their liquid consumption does decrease.
