Dh has 2 cats (I am a dog lover and cat tolerator). We got this pair as adults and for the first year I worked from home which I think may have caused this problem.

One of the cat constantly harrasses me, after an hour of being harrassed I have shut her out of this room so I can type without being pawed, nuzzled, mewed at etc etc I cannot have a lie in at the weekend as the bedroom is battered open once they are up and there is a full on assault on me, dh completely ignored.

She will enjoy being cuddled and fussed by dh but as soon as I am home I am once again the object of her desires.

Add into this the fact I am allergic to cats so I am now an itchy red blotchy mess from her affections.

It's driving me insane (trying to use the loo with either a cat on your lap or trying to batter down the door is not easy) is there anything I can do to get her fixated on dh or one of the dc Confused

Do you feed her? she sounds a very insecure cat.

Get you dh to feed her, I'm sure my cat only likes me because I know how to open a pouch.

Some vets do animal behaviourist sessions now.

RandomMess · 05/11/2011 14:13

We all feed her. Is it insecurity or ownership????

They are known as an affectionate and people orientated breed I just want her to love someone else !

You need pass her over to your DH or put her in a favourite spot every time she starts if you can. Make him the only one who feeds her, always pets her first etc. Its hard.

RandomMess · 05/11/2011 14:24

hmmm how to persuade him to be the first up everyday!

Her favourite spot is on me front legs wrapped around my neck, in my hairs and nibbling my ear and washing everything she can

Oh she sounds such a sweetie.

Maybe you are her human and she just loves being with you.

Cats like it when you dont look at them, it's non challenging behaviour, if you stare at them its challenging. Thats why they dont mind humans, we dont display challenging cat behaviours. You could hiss at her. It's cat for "piss off".

Although she may be heartbroken

RandomMess · 05/11/2011 15:12

LOL now I work full time out the house and dh is home much much more and feeds them more I had hoped her allegiences would change. Nah she's all over dh until I walk in the door and then I am pursued. Even getting dressed is a challenge some days as she leaps on me if I stand still for more than 30 seconds.

She would make some housebound person a devoted companion but I don't think dh will let me evict her!

Make sure you don't squint at her or look away. I think many cat non-lovers give cat come on signals.

RandomMess · 05/11/2011 15:19

Any takers, she's just so committed to her cause adorable...

the only thing that makes her disappear fairly quick are the hairdryer or me raking her

tabulahrasa · 05/11/2011 15:20

My cat's like that, well I say my cat...

DP wanted a cat, he found a breeder, he put his name down fir a kitten, he took a week off work to settle her in, I wasn't to feed her so that she'd prefer him

she had different ideas, lol, she waits for me outside the bathroom, sits outside my bedroom door of a morning and will jump off other people's laps to come and sit with me

I'm her person, it's nice, ok I do have to move her off my shoulder or legs everytime I move and I have had to remove her from my back while doing yoga Hmm

but how can you get annoyed by being adored? Lol

RandomMess · 05/11/2011 15:24

hmmm the sore eyes and blotchy skin, and yes the being "mounted" from a distance, not being allowed to MN, never getting a lie in without her desperately trying to fish me out from under the duvet.

See this is why I like dogs, you train them, it's on your terms so much more Confused

The wailing when you shut her out -arggggggggggghhhh

Fortunately her brother likes everyone and anyone as a source of affection and food he is also very stupid

What breed? See www.vickyhalls.net/
Excellent behaviorist and some behavioral treatment is covered on pet insurance.

RandomMess · 05/11/2011 15:26

somali

Dh scoffed when I suggested he get up first to be the one her feeds her every single time.

Tabu, my dh thought a male cat would bond with him more, and be a big bruiser of a bengal.

He is very much my cat, and is a big woofter who currently thinks dh has tried to strangle him with his collar. So he is now ignoring dh completely.

Fluffycloudland77 · 05/11/2011 15:33

random she wuvves you.

How old is she? All ours pass away at around 14 from cancer (I suspect they are all secret woodbine smokers), Or are fatally attracted to asbestos.

RandomMess · 05/11/2011 15:34

LOL, she sulked this morning for hours after I shut her out of the room I was in, sat on the dining table and waited for someone else to open the door and then carried on.

Well at least one creature in this world thinks I'm adorable.

Perhaps I just need to go away for a month or 2 and leave her to accept dh as the new one and only in her life!

OP posts:
tabulahrasa · 05/11/2011 15:34

:D I encouraged mine to jump on me from the ground, when I did a certain gesture, she can't jump that high anymore :(

I am kidding about it not being annoying, it's highly irritating and very very sweet all at the same time, lol

I've always just told her off for doing things I'm not going to let her do, by moving her away maybe a bit of hissing... A firm no. Not responding to yowling at internal doors - eventually she does get the message

She has cancer now though and I don't know how long she's got, so I've pretty much been wearing her as a scarf for months Blush :(

RandomMess · 05/11/2011 15:35

Hmm they are 4 this month and have had them 2 years. I probably have another 10 years of this should have demanded another child as compensation

tab that is so sad Sad

OP posts:
tabulahrasa · 05/11/2011 15:43

She's only 8 as well, so I'm fairly gutted - even though I've spent her whole life complaining about tripping over her as she follows me round the house or the fact that I'm can't wear black because of the furrage (she's a Siamese, so light fur and really fine as well)

I think you can train them though, just not as quickly as dogs

RandomMess · 07/11/2011 21:39

She is ignoring me this evening because I dared to go to work.

The looks I'm getting, the looks!

OP posts:
tabulahrasa · 07/11/2011 22:25

Ha, I'll match your looks and raise you a fifteen minute waily rant that I'm fairly sure includes swearing, rofl
