I've posted about my cat before - here and there

Willow's 8, she was diagnosed with Lymphoma about 6 months ago and has been on Chemo - she's done really well on it, she's been playful, going outside - even brought a mouse back last week.

She stopped eating at the weekend.

It's either the beginning of her going downhill, something unrelated but ultimately not fair to treat her for given that she's on borrowed time anyway, or possibly something unrelated that she might be ok with.

And I have no idea which till they've done a load of tests on her

It's also a year, exactly on Saturday since I had to have my dog PTS and the only person I can stress to in RL has a nasty chest infection, so I'm just sitting here by myself waiting for the phone to go :(

I'm so sorry to hear what you and your poor cat are going through. I have, unfortunately, no advice.

Just wanted to say your not alone. I'm worried about my cat too right now and it's a horrible feeling. So little we can do to help them...

LovingChristmas · 27/10/2011 15:12

Please be positive, my cat stopped eating a couple of months ago and was just miserable. She'd eaten some creature and the bone had scratched her throat and got infected! One injection of antibiotics and one steroid and within a day was stuffing down felix again! Hope all is well!

ChippingInToThePumpkinLantern · 27/10/2011 15:16

:( Poor little thing ... and you. It's so hard when they get sick isn't it.

Hopefully it's something like LC's cat had and easily fixed.

Fingers crossed
x

Still no call, which I think must mean they are going to keep her in - she'll hate it.

I was hoping it was her medication upsetting her stomach because that's just another pill, and she's easy to give pills to - but we tried that on Tuesday and it made no difference.

She was doing so well till the weekend :(

So sorry to hear about your little cat. Don't wait - give them a call and see what the results say. Often cats do stop eating at the slightest thing, so hopefully it is not too sinister

ColdSancerre · 27/10/2011 17:02

So sorry, she (and you are going through so much). I hope you get good news.

TheOriginalFAB · 27/10/2011 17:06

I hope you get the call soon and it is good news.

tabulahrasa · 27/10/2011 19:23

They finally phoned about 1/2 an hour ago - nothing obviously wrong with her on the scan, which is good

they haven't been able to get a urine sample yet, lol

I feel slightly better knowing that nothing serious has come up so far, they're treating her as if she has an upset stomach and hopefully I can get her back tomorrow afternoon.

I know we'll get to a point soon where I need to have her PTS as the medication will effect her, but she was so good up till the weekend and she's such a lovely cat that I'm trying to balance extending her life with quality of life.

She's a complete lap cat, in fact she's so sooky that she quite often sits on my shoulder while I do things round the house, lol

Glad things seem okay Smile.

My cat hasn't been well so I live each day wondering when she is going to get worse.Sad

tabulahrasa · 27/10/2011 19:51

I've lurked on your thread :)

I know that sometime fairly soon it'll be something that it would be unfair on her to treat, or the lymphoma will start to spread again :(

I think her pal's just noticed she's missing, my wee one yr old cat has suddenly gone unnusually affectionate, lol

OP posts:
tabulahrasa · 28/10/2011 23:57

Well she's home - packed full of medication and very dopey from being sedated, but she has her appetite back.

There was talk of tube feeding her if she wasn't eating by Monday, so this afternoon before I went to get her, I decided that that wasn't fair on her and that if she wasn't eating by Monday with no obvious cause for it then it was maybe time to let her go.

While I was deciding that, she was at the vets scoffing down half a tin of food, lol, I got her home at 6.30 and she staggered in and demanded her dinner Grin

She's on an anti-nausea tablet a stomach liner and a painkiller - so I don't know how long that's manageable for.

I know it sounds stupid considering she's on chemo, but I wouldn't keep her hanging on just because I don't want her to die...she genuinely was doing great until she suddenly stopped eating, active, playful, eating well, still going outside when it's dry (she's never liked weather). So I'm hoping she perks up after eating well and recovering from being to the vets or I am going to have to accept that she's had enough :(

But she's here now, cooried in on my knee :)

ChippingInToThePumpkinLantern · 29/10/2011 00:11

Oh that's lovely news :)

Try to take it one day at a time & spoil her rotten & encourage her clingy cat routine Grin

tabulahrasa · 29/10/2011 00:22

oh she's always clingy - she sits outside the bathroom door waiting for me, lol

The wee one, she's sweet, very affectionate when she wants to be but the operative words being when she wants to be. Willow follows me round waiting for my lap to appear, brings me (DD's) toys to throw for her and would be quite happy to let me carry her round like a baby all day if I wanted to, lol.

I'm really thirsty now - but I don't want to disturb her because she's all purry, spoiled isn't the word really, rofl

Notsurehow · 29/10/2011 00:46

She sounds wonderful and us cat lovers "get it". If she goes off her food agai, try tinned pilchards..for some reason, virtually irresistable but most felines. Also,a quick dose of steroids can stimulate her appetite.
Not suggesting prolonging her life if it was uncomfotable/painful for her but just in case there was another "blip".
Best of luck.
My 16yr old has recently lost a LOT of weight,is frinking more (kidneys I suspect),is far more "around" than ever, can't jump more than 12" max but exually is loving, purring and will play liek a kitten on occasions.I know her time is limited, hence she is being spoiled rotten (allowed to sleep anywhere, fed chicken, fish, lamb(her fave) cheese etc) because she has given me 16 wonderful years of companionship/comfort/stress relief etc etc and it is the very least I can to for her.....

tabulahrasa · 29/10/2011 01:06

She's on steroids already with her chemo - which is what's probably upset her stomach.

She copes well with being given tablets and the routine appointments - but this trip has stressed her massively, so I think this was the last time I'm going to take her for anything invasive like that. (it was the vet's school she was at not my local vet)

I'm hoping that she perks up over and we get another few months before she gets ill again, see I'm not unrealistic, rofl, I know she is on borrowed time...

she is lovely though - even the vet said so Grin so it must be true, lol

TheOriginalFAB · 29/10/2011 08:37

So lovely to know there are other cat mad people around.

I was fuming with ds2 last night as he stood on FABCat's tail while wearing his trainers Angry. The cry she gave was heartbreaking.

I have to try her on meds again on Monday and phone the vet if she has diarrhoea again.

Enjoy a lovely snuggly day with your cat, Tabu.

MyLittleFluffball · 29/10/2011 08:39

I'm glad Willow seems OK for now, and that there's nothing serious that appears to be the problem. She sounds like she usually has a lovely quality of life.

My cat is in Australia and has (borderline?) hyperthyroidism too.

You're lucky that your cat copes well with pills/ appointments. You helped me on my thread (turns out my cat has lymphoma too, by the way) and sadly my cat's hatred of pills/ car drives/ vets means we have opted not to treat her, apart from with steroids (she is terminally ill anyway - lymphoma in pets is a horrible disease).

tabulahrasa · 29/10/2011 10:30

She's not due her next dose of leukeran till Thursday and obviously if she's still unwell she'll not be having it - but I know from the scans that although her lymph nodes are still showing changes, they're better than they were and her spleen (which was what caused her original symptoms) is looking normal, so hopefully that means a few months before feeling ill again, if she perks up just now.

She's still sleepy today, but she normally is if she's been sedated.

The hyperthyroidism - it wasn't that cats in other countries don't get it, just that it's massively more common in the uk, she was actually telling students that and I started questioning her, rofl, they don't actually know why it is either - I thought it was quite interesting though. Apparently one theory was that it was to do with food, but then we were talking about the big brands and that it seemed unlikely... my suggestion was the weather, lol

How is Willow going? I hope she is feeling better.
