Poor old girl's heading downhill

My old girl is starting down the slope. She's sitting behind the chair all the time, not eating much and her weight has dropped again to 2.1kg. Basically she's just bone and fur now. Vet has taken blood for a test this morning (thinks it's kidney or maybe liver) but at 17 there's not much that they can do any more.
Would appreciate some positive vibes for the results on Monday. She's been with me since she was 2 so we've grown old together.

I know exactly how you are feeling. My old boy is also 17 and suddenly having alsorts of problems. We too are waiting results tomorrow. Could be a liver problem, but more likely something also going on in his brain. It is heartbreaking. (OneMorning gave me support before) and all is so up and down.
Sending you lots of positive vibes for tomorrow. It is so hard watching them grow old

Thanks for asking Onemorning. He's having these weird episodes still, wobbly and disorientated. No results yet from the vet. Hopefully tomorrow and we'll then be able to decide what's what.

Just spoken to the vet...was hoping for good news but unfortunately she's in quite severe kidney failure. On top of that her calcium and white cell counts are high. It means either she's just got the kidney problem and the other results are a side effect of this or it could be kidney cancer.

We're off to the vet again Thursday for another blood test to prove which.

If it's just kidneys then she could have dialysis at the vet but no guarantee she'd survive it or not go down again when it stops. Cat 2 had this in 2009 but was younger and fitter.

If it's cancer then we're probably at the end of the road :(

Off to Petplan folder to get the insurance policy....here we go again.

Well I'm back from the vet, Max isn't. We saw another vet and she decided that she was so dehydrated that she would need to be admitted and go on a drip overnight. They are calling tonight with an update.[hsad]

I'm still tying myself in knots whether to let them do any more to her or whether to just bring her home and let her go with some dignity.
It's one of the hardest decisions to make.

Well, she's home.
Sporting a very fetching bandage on her leg which she's reluctant to let me take off.
White cell count was a UTI (blood and protein in urine) so she's full of penicillin.
She's also on blood pressure tablets and appetite stimulants.

Her kidneys are shot though. The vet's talking in terms of months.

As soon as she lets me near enough I'll give her a cuddle.

I'm glad she's home and hopefully you can cuddle her soon.

When we were told that Jas was terminally ill, it was horrible. But after a while we were able to enjoy his company and we had a wonderful last few months together. I hope that you are are able to enjoy your time with Max.

Went in the dining room this morning and she had done an enormous wee down the skirting board, on the carpet and on the hem of the curtains.... she's never done this before, has always been spotless.

Anyone know if this is connected with the kidney failure and UTI? (Dining room now smells like a park gents loo.)

Am really feeling that we're getting towards the end of the road. Next vet visit is Friday, what's the betting we'll come back with Feliway?

It's very sad when you know you're reaching the end, isn't it.

I also don't have any advice but just wanted you to know I am thinking of you and your cat, and hope your cat is feeling better now. It is a very sad time for you. :(

Sorry for you, its sad when you've had them so long.

Would think the peeing is due to kidney failure. Had my lovely old cat pts last year due to kidney failure. She was peeing quite excessively and often in wrong place, think probably started to go senile too as she had always been very clean.

She still ate quite well until last few days but pee became more excessive & more dilute (if yours stinks its maybe not so advanced) as kidneys not doing their job.
