silly question maybe - but is it ok to feed "older cat" food to my cats?

Neighbour's elderly cat died recently, and she very kindly brought round some food and litter she had left. I didn't think about it at the time, but when I looked at the food it is for "older cats", over 7 years. Mine are 2 and 3 1/2. I suppose it's just got a few different nutrients etc in. Am I being a bit PFB? Is it ok to give to my two do you think?

We have done this by accident (put dh in charge if buying food) and he's ok but he was hungrier while he had it.

Give it to a local shelter they've no doubt got older cats who would appreciate it.

Fine for an occasional meal but the balance of food should be strongly in favour of normal adult cat food.

Thanks for replying - I actually noticed today that our local supermarket has a basket near the exit, collecting tins etc for a local cat shelter so think I'll take it down there, I'd hate to waste it.

We bought some 'senior' food by mistake once and it gave our very young cat the squits. I wondered if it has some sort of er..laxitive or something in it to keep an older cat 'regular'. Anyway realising it was the wrong stuff stopped using it quick and he was fine.
