Cat constantly bringing me mice/dead birds/frogs etc

He's a murdering puss! Almost every night this week we've come down to a dead mouse in the kitchen.

What the heck is going on??

It's just that time of year again. Apart from keeping him in at night there's nothing you can do.

Unless you have mice, mine caught one in the cupboard. I had nonidea we had mice, neighbours had pest controll round at the same time for moles. Her lawn never had any mole hills though, and I can see her lawn from my house.

Mine used to bring them in alive and then lose them in the kitchen. We have had to set the catflap to out only so we can supervise!

Keep them in at night is thr only way. I lock the flap after calling them in for bed, well, bribing them in.

They are most active at dawn and dusk, so about 4-5 am is the time most cats allowed out at night will hunt. Its the one thing I hate about cats.

Our two do this. The pass few weeks me and dh been running round house at 1am trying to catch live mice they have brought in!!

Mine brings me critically injured birds, Including pigeons as big as her and once the cutest little blackbird chick with a chewed wing. It's down to me to put them out of their misery - it's awful, I'd much rather she finished them off herself if she insists on hunting

not as bad as the squirrel my two brought me one day!

my cat turns to crime when he wants to impress us for some reason

when dd2 was born he adopted the attitude of one who had been severely affronted for several weeks; one morning we found a dead sparrow on the doorstep, a couple more followed in quick succession and then him and dd2 were best of friends...

pippibluestocking, thats awful, how do you cope with that? I admire people like you who can do that because i am too much of a wimp and it's selfish as the bird/mouse whatever then suffers. I even hate 'finishing off' worms or snails There is a localish wildlife sanctuary, i take them there. Luckily have never been faced with something obviously injured like a chewed wing

my cat appeared at my bedroom window this morning with blood on her usually snow white bib & feathers stuck in her fur...as yet no carcass found.

My eldest furboy doesn't really hunt (lazy git doesn't really see the point, when there are biscuits on tap). The youngest is another story though -- he is constantly bringing stuff home, sometimes several kills a night. The only upside is that he does at least finish them off and eat them, saving me the trouble of clearing up after him...

It is the killing season, a time of year beloved by cats for all the lovely stupid young creatures tumbling into the world for a good chomping.

I'd actually feel quite grateful that the 'gifts' in question are at least dead, as round here, anything that that moves must be caught in my cat's opinion. She isn't really as good at the killing part though... or possibly she just finds human-flail incredibly funny and prefers to bring us wiggly gifts for shits and giggles.

I'd quite like her to get me a mouse for a change - easier to deal with than the angry 2 foot snakes she persists in trying to give me... and less likely to make DH run away to hide like a big wussypants [hgrin]
