I need to re-home my cat

Sad

Long story short, we are moving abroad in September, and having taken everything into consideration I have decided it would be kinder to him to leave him behind. The country we are going to is not ideal for a variety of reasons. I can take him if I have to, but I honestly don't think he'll be very happy there. I don't know where to start with the re-homing process though - any advice for me?

Where are you?

smokinaces · 23/05/2011 18:35

Where are you? My cat actually came from a MNer in a similar situation, she was moving abroad and not taking him. We gave him a very loving home here a year ago now. You might find a MNer here ready to do the same thing for you!

Fellatio, just realised its you! Does this mean you wont make the Christmas meet?!!? Sad

FellatioNelson · 23/05/2011 19:30

Yes it's me Grin and no i won't Sad. I am north Essex now.

He is a four (or five Confused) year old black and white neutered little mini panther who likes to kill things, and is very bossy and demanding.

I'm not really selling him am I? Grin

Oh dear - I fully expect the crazy cat ladies will be along any minute now to tell you how selfish you are moving abroad, and if you were any kind of pet owner you would be staying put for the cat's sake.

Paschaelina · 23/05/2011 19:37

I want.

But I cant.

Sad

Hope you find someone.

ImeldaM · 23/05/2011 19:38

He was certainly an adorable kitten, looking at your pics.

Why don't I have your lovely cat & I can rehome my peeing/pooing everywhere cat instead, only joking unfortunately, I do love her, annoying though she is.

smokinaces · 23/05/2011 19:39

Hopefully Fellatio someone on here will want him - Mine was 4 when I rehomed him, and he is a GIANT fat black thing, which is nutty and scratches everything. But I adore him Grin

DO NOT advertise him via the freeads or Gumtree. The reasoning behind this, is that dog baiters and other vile and horrible people use them as a means to get bait animals.

I would recommend that you contact all your local rescues and state that you'd like to rehome your cat as you are moving abroad. Ask to be put on their "home to home" list if they have one, as well as their "intake" list. What that basically means, is that the cat is rehomed through the rescue, with the homecheck and back-up support, but the animal doesn't actually physically go into rescue, IYSWIM.

Also, let your vet know you need to rehome. They often have people looking for new pets or know of people looking. We homed one of our cats this way - we specifically wanted a young black boy-cat, because we lost ours. We let our vets know and 3 months later, a black, stray boycat came in needing a home. Guess where he ended up...

If you don't have much luck, PM me. I have several North Essex rescue contacts and could possibly pull a few strings.

That's very helpful QT, thanks. No, I would not dream of advertising him for the very reasons you stated.
