Cleaning motor oil/grease off a cat... Any tips?

So... Jeffrey decided to sleep in someones car engine last night (we think)

He's got a big smudge of black oil/grease on his lovely little white face. Any idea how I clean it off without causing me him stress?

Would coca-cola (other brands are available) do it?

Should I boil the whole cat, or just dunk his face in it?! Grin

I'll give it a go, but we only have diet - will that work as well?

Is your cat ham-like?

I'm sure diet will be just as effective for melting teeth.

If it's only a little smudge (as in he won't ingest too much oil by eventually washing it off himself) I'd just leave him to it and it'll come off sooner or later.

Otherwise washing up liquid is probably your best bet, but Jeffrey may not thank you for it at the time...

Loving mechanic kitty!

Have had a good look at him, and it does seem to only be a little smudge, so I think I'll chicken out leave him alone to see if he sorts himself out.

If there's not much oil there, you could try massaging a bit of cornflour into the oily fur then brushing it out. That soaks up the grease. Nb this does not work if there's loads of oil, (ie wet with oil) as it'd just turn into a gluey mess.

baby wipes? if she lets you near her with them that is :)

I've used wet wipes and also dettox surface wipes Blush on my boys before. Also give the 'treated' area a very good wash with just water afterwards before they get involved with their own washing.

Groomers Goop! google it and you will find it.
works brilliantly and is not so harsh on the coat as swarfega

but i expect fairy liquid will do the job if its only a splodge.

Washing up liquid is what we use in the clinic. It should be very thoroughly washed off as even a small amount of motor oil can have quite serious effects on a cats digestive system.

I washed mine with baby shampoo and it came off fine - obv I got a few scratches but better than him licking it all!
