Booster vaccinations for cats - rigid timescale?

We got our cat last year and her vaccination record said her boosters were due in January. Unfortunately for one reason and another (my bil was terminally ill and tbh my head's been all over the place) we only got round to taking her this week. My only experience of vaccinations is with children where the timescale is not rigid for boosters. The vet however said that because the jabs were 3-4 months overdue we would need to start again and have a double course. Obviously this is more expensive. Anyway she's had them of course and we're booked to take her back for the next set.
What I would like opinions on is - was this absolutely necessary? We've never been to that vets before as she's been very healthy since we've had her so I don't know what to expect value for moneywise. Clearly I feel dreadful that we may have risked her health - lesson learned there - but I wondered if anyone knows what the science is behind the jabs - is there evidence for so rigid a timescale?

I've been told 14 months between boosters by a friend who is a vet (so not profiting from telling me that) so by that measure your vet would be right.

We were a month Kate and the vet insisted we start again with a double dose

Sorry, late not kate

Wow a month late and a restart - that seems harsh! Interesting to see others have similar experiences.

Our cat failed to have her booster injection at all the year before last. Combination of forgetting, money problems and not going away so she didn't need to be in a cattery. So she went two years between boosters. Vet didn't seem to mind and didn't try snd get us to restart.

Cat was 10 last year - not sure if cats age makes any difference.

I think the age does make a difference - vet said if she was older and had more boosters it wouldn't matter so much.

The feline leukaemia part of the vaccines has a leeway of only about a month over the 12 months recommendation for booster, and the flu/enteritis part has up to about 3 months before a full course becomes required again.
