He now has a skin tear, where the clump came out. Guess it is Vets first thing tomorrow.

We will probably get wrong for letting him get to matted at the back, but every time he sees a brush he disappears for days. I have been bitten by him twice, once causing my hand to double in size and become infected.

Our other two cats are immaculately clean and groomed but he is too fat to reach the end of his back near his tail. :(

Does anyone know if vets tend to sedate them or put them under GA. Bet it costs a fortune.

We had chinchillas with a comb allergy when I was little and several of them had to be sedated and de-matted. Don't feel bad about the skin tear I've seen ours come back with nicks after having it done.

Have you tried a furminator? I got one for my Bengal and he doesn't seem to mind being groomed. I got mine off amazon and it gets loads out with out pulling to much.

Hi tink, have you been to the vet yet about the mat? I got a 10 month old maine coon from a breeder a couple of months ago and it doesn't look like he's ever been groomed despite the type of fur he has...his mats are so bad that they can't be brushed out and I need to take him to the vet as well so was wondering about your experience of it?
