2 kittens from 1 mother - girls or boys or one of each?

as title really. we are getting 2 kittens from a local farm cat. we were just going to get one but apparently 1 is ginger, 1 is grey tabby and 4 are tabby (she had them on sunday)- I don't think I can only get one (am tempted by grey tabby and ginger on imagined appearances alone but oh i love tabbies too!). plus we have 2 kids so 2 seems fairer...
anyway - which would work best - 2 girls 2 boys or one of each? We were originally after a boy (cheaper to neuter plus I think worse hunters?) but your experiences and advice would be appreciated... not been in the kitten game for about 13 years, nor the cat game for 2, so feeling a bit novicey...

Unless money is an issue definitely get two - they'll keep each other company. If they are from the same litter I think they should be used to each other regardless of what combination you get. If you get a girl/boy mix I guess you'll need to keep a sharper eye on timing for spaying/neutering?!

I've got two boys from the same litter. They have the occassional fight (not very viscious, in fact really rather wimpy...) but they get along fine.

Mostly, I'd say go by the personalities - choose the outgoing rather than the jumpy ones. I think that makes more difference than the sex in how they will get on. But girls do roam less far, which may be an issue if you have busy roads nearby.

Mind you, having said all that, I've always wanted a grey tabby....

Have one of each, 2 females can be too much !! We have 2 grumpy females and a lovely male , they all muddle along together !!
