Tell me there is catflap that keeps unwanted cats out

After a long night on Saturday playing at cat detectives. We have discovered our infra-red catflap from Staywell is utter pants. Any old cat can come along, head butt it and enter house.

No wonder our cat is going crazy.

So do you know of a catflap that really does only allow the cat who lives there enter. And really does keep out other cats?

There is a catflap that reads the microchip of the cat and admits it, they are quite expensive and obviously require the cat to be chipped! But they can be programmed to allow more than one cat of the address to enter. I think they are called PETPORTE or something. DH's colleague got one fitted for his cats, and said the only negative is that it doesn't open instantly, which can be a problem if the cats are being pursued! He did say it took them a while to get used to it, but even the old one managed.

We have the sureflap it is a microchip flap it opens and shuts fast so that when babies are being pursued they can get in and the evil cat slams into it. A sureflap plus microchip is around the same cost as two trips to the vet to get abscesses/ wounds treated.
Sureflap is much stronger than a staywell, evil cat destroyed the staywell and has yet to break in through the sureflap nearly a year later.
You do need to wipe it clean occasionally, more often if often if you have a mad cockerpoo who uses it as a window on the garden.

Be warned though that even the microchip ones can let other cats in.

Our neighbour has a super-duper microchip one and our cat (who to put it politely is a bit of a dumb-arse is a bit dim) manages to get through by getting her claw under the flap and pulling it towards her rather than trying to push it to go through.

We had a magnetic catflap at our old house after another cat kept coming in - it worked really well and was cheaper than a microchip one.

I had 2 petportes and my intruder managed to work out how to open both.....was replaced by a Sureflap and it's the only one that's worked. They are expensive but so worth it, I had problems with an intruder for 6 months: eating my cat's food, sleeping on the sofa and this made my cat spray everywhere!!!!!

Interesting Miss Foodie... I tested out the PetP at the vets and The vet thought

We've had no issues since locking the cat flap and kitchen internal door and keeping our cat upstairs on a night. Hope the intruder will bugger off.
