Cat - Anti-D's ?

We have a 4 yr old stroppy tomcat. He had a tough start to life and at 3 months he came to us.

He used to spray when stressed about other cats. But he's got an infra-red catflap thingy so that sorted that.

For the last month or 2 he's been spraying around the home. At night when we sleep. We thought it was cat related.

Had him to the vets on Monday to check him out. He has urine infection. So he's on medication but spraying more and more.

He has to live in the kitchen at night with catflap access.

Tried Feliway. No joy.

Vet said today we complete the meeds and return next Thurs. Then try anti-depressants. Then he says we have to consider rehoming for the cat and our sakes.

I feel so guilty but I cannot keep getting up at 5.30am to deep clean the kitchen. I am knackered and losing patience.

Has anyone had a cat on anti-d's ? Did it help?

Anyone had a cat who had a urine infection and sprayed, and took a while to stop?

I have used Anti-depressants in particular amitryp, in cats for FLUTD. However, only when extensive investigations several urine samples with no bacteria or crystals and x-rays etc have shown no cause and all conventional treatments have failed it would not be a first line choice.

Thanks - we are clearing the obvious reasons clinically.
I am pretty upset if my cat taking anti-D's. I feel I have failed him. He is lovely and a big part of our family.

I am so hoping he knocks what is becoming a habit on the head. He's got new meds today to try. Fingers crossed and thanks
