How will my furry princess react to a new arrival?

My much worshipped elderly rescue cat hates children. Absolutely terrified of them, and hides away whenever any come over, even tiny newborns - she bolts on seeing a car seat. Is there anything I can do to make it easier for her in October, when I'm due for my first human baby?

Get prepared early. Make the baby furniture part of the furniture way before baby arrives. Unfortunately this has its drawbacks since this is what I have done and now with my baby due in 2 weeks I face a massive fight with my 2 cats who both fight over the crib now - obviously they aren't aware it belongs to baby.

Have the feliway at the ready when baby is due to arrive. Apart from that you'll have to play it by ear and see what happens when you bring baba home.

Right, I'll give that a go. I tried feliway when we moved house before and it didn't seem to help, but also, it doesn't hurt. Thanks for the advice, I hope your new arrival goes smoothly!

We read a tip about playing newborn cries (from You Tube etc) to cats. We've trying it now, each day, with our two house cats, who are two years old, and have only met two babies and a couple of toddlers.

Their reactions...the first time, two little faces appeared around the door, like ET their necks were so loooong. Very black-eyed and radar-eared. They seem to be getting a little better with it, after four days.

Worth a try, too? Although it looks like yours has already met more small humans!
