What can you give a cat to un-constipate her?

Sorry for gruesome thread but due to a bit of a recent flea issue, our poor old cat has been licking herself a lot.

This morning she threw up her whole breakfast and seems to be feeling sorry for herself...I imagine, though I may be wrong, that she has got a load of fur stuck somewhere.

Is this something I can help her with at home? I wondered about some oily fish or something, to help it move along...I'd appreciate any advice.

Obviously if she gets poorlier I will take her to the vet, but atm it's only just happened and it's not that unusual for her to throw up so am waiting and seeing for today.

Thankyou.

If she is vomiting, but not bringing up any fur I would be concerned. Secondly it maybe worth getting yourself down the vet this morning to save yourself an out hours fee as it is Saturday today.
I would only prescribe laxatives to a straining cat not a vomiting cat.

Many thanks, Lizcat. She went out in the garden for a bit and was eating grass, so I wonder if she is trying to sort herself out, whatever it is. She's 12 btw.

She's been around my feet asking me for some more food just now but am thinking I will just provide water and maybe some fish later, to let her tummy settle. There appears to be no more vom anywhere (we had to go out to a school thing) so I guess that's good.

Don't worry, I love her very much so will keep a close eye. If it has to be OOH it'll be OOH, if she needs it.

Thanks again for your advice.

How's she doing today? I do hope she's feeling better. Perhaps she just ate something that disagreed with her - fortunately cats do seem to vomit up stuff like that very readily!

One of my cats is very prone to constipation - usually it can be managed at home through meds and diet but occasionally it means a visit to the vet for various expensive indignities which he does not appreciate at all Shock.

You can get anti furball treats from pet shops. My sister's cat lodged with us for a year, and she was a constant washer who'd vomit up furballs (slugs) on a regular basis. The oily treats really helped her.

Salmon always gives my cat the craps.

Oh, thankyou all for asking, that's really nice of you.

polly is now back to her usual self, demanding dinner and breakfast at every opportunity throughout the day - she's kept everything down since, so it must have been a random aberration.

I looked at getting cat insurance yesterday in a slight panic, as we haven't had any for a few years, and saw how expensive it was - something like a £200 excess plus 35% of any claim? and that costs £220 a year.

I just cannot afford that. If she gets anything really serious we'll just have to wing it.

But I digress. I did have a cat who got ery constipated once and needed sedation to be sorted out, poor old girl, so I panicked a bit, and thought of the chickens and what you do when they are crop bound! Which is give them oil.

So thought I would ask about home remedies. I didn't know you could get treats like that - that's very helpful to know.

many thanks for all the replies, anyway Smile from me and the Polser.
