My latest foster dog is a kitten-cat... and she needs a forever home!

It makes a change for a foster pet in this house to be a cat. Snowy is on my profile photos and although the picture isn't a very good one and doesn't show how sleek and Oriental-looking she is I can tell you that she is beautiful and a real sweetheart too.

Snowy was another "free to a good home" unwanted pet, discarded because she "doesn't get on with her kittens".

Yep... she's already had kittens. Yet at just 9 months old she's only a kitten herself. angry

She arrived here running alive with fleas and absolutely petrified, hiding behind the sofa as soon as she was let out of her basket. She's very slim and has probably been underfed until now but also, to be fair, has the sleek coat and face/body shape of a cat who might have some Siamese or similar in her background.

In the week that she's been here she's been de-flead and coaxed out of her shell. She's still nervous of load noise and sudden movement but is very affectionate and snuggly, great with my own cats and fine with the dogs. Tomorrow she is going to be spayed and vaccinated and then when she's recovered she'll be looking for a forever home.

She will be adopted on a rescue contract, under normal rescue terms, the basics of which are:

Adoption of an animal under my care is always subject to the potential owner being visited at home by a rescue representative.

All animals are vet checked before leaving my care.

Unless there is firm veterinary advice that it is not in the interest of the pet all those in my care are spayed/neutered.

They also vaccinated before being homed.

Snowy must return to me should the owner ever not be able to keep her, no matter how many years in the future that may be.

Support and advice will be offered for life.

A donation of £65 towards the cost of spaying, vaccinating, flea and worm treating is required as the cost of these to me will be in excess of a hundred and fifty pounds and, even with the best will in the world, I can't afford to cover the entire cost of veterinary care or I won't be able to help the next unwanted pet who comes my way.

Snowy will not be homed to those with young children because of her timid reaction to noise and chaos.

Snowy can be rehomed to almost anywhere across the country provided that the potential owners are prepared to meet her in East Anglia/home counties area following a successful home visit by a rescue representative so if anyone knows of a suitable home please let me know

She's beautiful - unfortunately we lived in a rented house and aren't allowed.

Vallhala · 01/03/2011 11:44

Thanks ladies. She really is very pretty. To my relief and unlike many white cats including my last 'foster' (ha ha!) one, Esme, she's not deaf. Esme, owing to her deafness and to me being lucky enough to live in the country away from busy roads, has ended up staying.

Sadly I can't take on any more permanently or I'd keep Snowy too. I'm one of those rare private tenants with a pet-friendly landlord but I think he'd be taking the same stance as yours if I added another cat to the household for keeps, Trillian. Besides, I have to be realistic about the amount of time and money I would have - I can't add to the pets I have and continue to rescue/foster, there just wouldn't be enough hours in the day or pennies in the bank.

Better I find a good home for Snowy than have to say that I can't take in the next unwanted one. :)

Sorry Val as much as I would love to the vacancies are all full here.

purplepidjin · 02/03/2011 18:57

Val,
I lost Mango today - see profile. I've jsut returned from ID'ing him at the vets.

I have another cat, 5 years old, shy and nervy until she gets used to you. She is very much a house cat, and having lost Mango under the wheels of a car today, any other cat would need to stay in too. I live in a maisonette - house sized but one floor up over shops. Plenty of room of two cats to share or keep away from each other. Lots of toys and scratching posts.

If you think Snowy would like this set up, message me.

BellaMagnificat · 02/03/2011 19:06

Oh Purple so very very sorry. I hope Snowie is the cat for you. She is beautiful.

If not, Val I have 2 dogs who are here at weekends and 2 eves a week (shared access with ex p!) and a fulltime resident, bossy, vocal rescue cat who has some Burmese in her. She was found on an industrial estate with her litter of kittens Angry Came from Cats' Protection League.

I have no garden - small yard - but there is access to one if the cat is agile. Quiet cul de sac. I work f/t and couldn't keep her in all day as catflap is always propped open ( long story)

sharbie · 02/03/2011 19:10

we are full here too - but love the pic and the way she is waving to camera Smile

purplepidjin · 02/03/2011 19:14

Thanks, Bella.

If it helps, DP works from home most days and I work shifts so there's usually someone around. If I had a garden and a regular routine I would love a dog but it wouldn't be fair at the moment.

Hi Val

DH and I are thinking about getting a rescue cat... and snowie is beautiful. We are slightly different scenario to Purplepidjin (and I know I'm not the first in the queue Wink) but in case things don't quite work out....

We are London based, have a ground floor flat with a garden and no other pets. Both of us work full time but my DH works nearby and handily close to a vet if we need.

We are TTC right now, no children right now, but perhaps some in the future (although clearly lots of time for cat to settle).

I really do hope that PP is the right owner for Snowy but if not then maybe we could be?

purplepidjin · 02/03/2011 20:22

tomato, you sound like you're much closer (cats don't like car journeys) and in a much better place to rehome her.

I am planning to walk into my local RSPCA/CPL etc in a few days and ask for an older cat - just saw the thread and thought I'd pop my name on [smilethroughtears]. I'm happy to bow out to a home where she'll be an only, and have a proper garden

Ormirian · 02/03/2011 20:26

She is a real beauty! I wish I could....but 2 cats and 2 rats is about our limit. Looks as if you have 2 potential candidates already.

Sorry about your mog pidge Sad

morethanyoubargainfor · 02/03/2011 20:34

I would alos be interested but i have 2 dogs who have lived with cats before but are very 'interested' in moggies, they have never hurt one but have ran over to them, one of my dogs is a lurcher. I don't think it would be right to have a nervous cat right now sadly.

I would love to have her but don't think it is fair on her. I will however ask about for you and get back to you if i find anyone interested, i often get asked about any animals looking for a home.

I hope you can find a suitable home for her, sounds like she needs one.

purplepidjin · 02/03/2011 21:29

Thanks, Orm. He was waiting for his paperwork back from registering as a PAT cat and will be sadly missed Sad A very special lad and very much my PFB

Ormirian · 03/03/2011 16:32

OK....anything happening with Snowy? We need to know!
