Does everyone keep their cats in at night?

Hi.

I'm in a quandary, my two cats are nearly one and I let them out during the day but keep them in at night.

They seemed ok with this but one is finding more ingenious ways of getting out at night.

The traffic here is very quiet, but I was advised by a long time cat owner to keep them in at night as that is when hers have gone missing.

What do people think?

Feel free. I wouldn't take the CPL as the ultimate authority, though.

I don't remember the cpl saying that you have to agree to keep the cat in of a night. Must be a new thing and imo is daft because all cats are different.

Ours is more often that not out all night and then sleeps on my bed all day.

I didn't take it as ulatimate authority - I did some reading of my own as well. Plus used my own local knowledge of the things such as air gun incidents all having happened at night.

Cat is quite happily curled up asleep on the sofa now - has been in and out all day. He'll go out again first thing in the morning. He came in earlier this evening and played with his screwed up paper balls and string with the DS's.

When I first got him (and had to keep him in as he was knew and would probably have buggered off for good had I let him out) he was rather nocturnal and it was rather nice........(given that I have insomnia) apart from over 1/2 term when the Ds's played with him all day - but the last few days since he's been out in the mornings until his dinner time he's starting sleeping at night........

So 4 members of my house sleeping at night - only one more to go

I think that if you take on a cat you have to take on the worry as well - it comes as part of the package.

Mind you, I completely buggered dp's laptop at the weekend - I did an emergency stop for a rabbit and his briefcase fell off the back seat.....

Mine has always come and gone as he pleases as I've always had a catflap. However, I'm just thinking of changing the rules on him and keeping him in overnight as he often brings live mice and rats into the house (usually my bedroom or the kitchen), chases them for a bit and then just leaves them. I've a baby due in the next few weeks and am concerned that I'll no longer have the energy to be up all night feeding baby and then catching his little pets. I've tried explaining to him that dead rodents are okay but not live ones, to no avail unfortunately. Wish me luck!

Our kitten will be staying in at night. We had a gorgeous cat who we got Xmas of 2009, he was a real adventurer and used to scream the house down if kept in at night so we relented and had a cat flap fitted so he could do as he pleased.. Just before this Xmas (he was just over a year old) we got a call to say he had been found dead on a very busy road that he had found his way to.

New cat will be in at night whether she likes it or not.

Ours go in and out as they please. 2 of them spend a lot of the night out, one is always in. But they are all rescues, and one who spent a long time at the cattery gets very distressed if she can't go in and out.

When we didn't have a catflap (diff cats) we tried to keep them in at night
