Bit macabre but cats in curry?

Has anyone heard of this?

Just been told of a person who got what they thought was a seed stuck in their teeth at a curry house, when they went to the dentists as it was hurting them and they couldn't remove it; they were told it was a microchip from a dog or cat!

I found similar complaints online for other curry houses...

And to say its no different to a bone, well, if it was microchipped it was someone's pet to start with!

And to not disclose that the meat is dog/cat/whatever is illegal surely?

It would be the HSE prosecuting for unlicensed meat.

I don't know if that is a civil or criminal offence.

peggotty · 08/02/2011 17:12

I was being silly. I just don't believe it, that's all. It just sounds made up. I'm not saying you made it up btw. It's one of those daft stories - a dentist finds a microchip embedded in someone's teeth, fgs, it's just DAFT!

onimolap · 08/02/2011 17:14

Do I mean HSE, or Environmental Health? Anyhow the people who deal with things like unlicensed meant and E-Coli outbreaks and the like. I should imagine their investigation/prosecution would have to precede any individual suit.

Hmmm if its only about rice grain size though it could get embedded in your teeth/gums though couldn't it?

Poppycock. There may be many ways to skin a cat, but they are all very fiddly and time-consuming for very little meat in the way of reward.

I'm not disputing the fact that it could get embedded, but it's just too 'convenient' to the story, another layer to the old cat/dog in curry myth.

fluffy91 · 08/02/2011 17:31

They aren't plastic.
They have glass, copper and i'm not sure what else in there.

Micro chips are very small. And it wasnt such an urban myth with police raiding and carrying out dogs in bags from a chinese [hmmm]I have also seen various documentaries over the years that have caught take aways/restaurants in action.

Yes and a cat is a delicacy in a few countries, along with kangaroo, snakes, bugs etc

Being british to eat a PET is not our liking but to breed and eat a cat in theres is fine. Wouldnt be so bad if they bred them for this purpose but at least ADVERTISE that they are selling it! We breed cows and eat them so no difference really.

But if it was someones PET.................IF this story is true then they should go court for animal cruelty and get locked away for a VERY long time.

onimolap · 08/02/2011 17:47

Dog does turn up in Chinese restaurant sometimes: it is a delicacy for the discerning.

I cannot believe it would be palmed off on the ignorant masses.

coff33pot · 08/02/2011 17:58

ignorant masses????

Guess you have a lot of friends........................

I am out of this post I have more manners than to insult you. Convo over

BertieBotts · 08/02/2011 18:09

I've heard the microchip story, IIRC it was my friend's sister's boyfriend's colleague that it happened to.

Most likely an urban legend. Still pretty grim and upset me for a good few weeks after I heard it. In this version of the story it didn't get stuck in the diner's teeth but he felt it in his mouth, wondered what it was, the waiters tried to chivvy it away and because of this he became suspicious, took it to the police to see whether they could identify it, and they told him it was a pet microchip.

I just don't see why they would steal pets? It seems like a lot of effort and risk for relatively little meat. I could understand breeding cats or dogs for meat since they are relatively cheap to keep (still eurgh but TBH most farmed animals are kept in appalling conditions)

One Indian near here was closed down after it was found serving dog

onimolap · 08/02/2011 18:15

Oh dear. Tongue in cheek went wrong.

Sorry everyone.

I didn't mean to offend with an obviously badly expressed view.

[ I should have stuck to "gweilo" as that didn't cause offence above].

JadeBird · 18/02/2011 14:38

It was House of Raj, not a myth it was my friend's work collegue's sister it happened to, last week.

JadeBird · 18/02/2011 14:41

And it was a dog microchip, the owners of the dog and the woman who consumed the curry are suing the place. from the chip they found out the dog was either a lab or staf, dunno which one it turned out to be though

LadyGlencoraPalliser · 18/02/2011 14:45

If anyone peddling this urban myth would like to link to an actual news report that might provide some proof, I should be very grateful. (And surprised...)

QueenOfFlippingEverything · 18/02/2011 14:47

Oh come on, its obviously bollocks.

It is right up there with the stories of murderers knocking on the roof of your car with a severed head.

Go and check Snopes FGS.

Vallhala · 19/02/2011 00:34

If it IS happening there seems to be an AWFUL lot of it about,

I think we can safely say that this is bull. :)

lee1972 · 12/03/2011 22:42

my mom has told me this tonight if it was 2 weeks ago could be the same one

it was a friend off my sisters so would be local to sedgley / dudley area

they got the microchip out and the vet rang the person it was registered to she said it was a staffordshire bull terrier and it was stolen 2 weeks before from her garden

i hadnt heard anything till tonight so i googled it and found this page i am hopin its a sick joke i will speak to sister tomorrow and find out what i can

xena72 · 27/05/2020 20:08

@peggotty
you REALLY should not comment on that which you clearly know ZERO about.. a cats microchip is so small it fits in a needle point of a syringe! and since the big chain chinese located in coventry got busted for the "microchip in dinner", a LOT less animals go missing per year now.

DeborahAnnabelToo · 27/05/2020 21:12

Why have you resurrected a thread which is 9 YEARS OLD @xena72!!??

WeirdAndPissedOff · 28/05/2020 11:51

@xena72
I'm also not sure why the need for the zombie resurrection, but for reference this is the size if a microchip and needle:

xena72 · 28/05/2020 19:15

probably because it (clearly illegally) came up in a search for "microchip+restaurant"...didn't catch the rules where you can't correct people who's opinions are given as fact...sorry lol...
if you don't want further "zombie/resurrected" comments, maybe get the MISLEADING thread removed?
