The litter tray

what wet food do you feed?

At the moment our cat is fed on iams dry food, I'm thinking of introducing wet food as well, probably only 1 sachet a day. But which wet food is best? and where is the cheapest place to buy it?

Morrison's/Tesco's works fine for us. Even Lidl on occassion.

If your cat is happy on dry food I would seriously keep him on it rather than introducing something else into the equation for him to like more.

With my eldest I tried to feed her dry food with a little wet food on the side but she just got so fussy. She now rarely eats the dry food and lives of the wet which is significantly more expensive. I wish I'd have kept her on the dry as not only is it cheaper but it doesn't smell as much and it is easier to clean up after. My other cat though prefers the dry food and only ever eats the gravy off the wet food and leaves the "meat" for my other cat to eat.

To answer your question though - I buy my fussy cats Felix "as good as it looks" selection which costs me £15 for 48 pouches from Tesco.

Hmm good point 1Catherine1. He does wolf it down (just sainsburys own brand, at the moment) but people have been saying that all dry isn't so good for them because it can lead to cystitus

People say a lot. People also say that you shouldn't neuter a cat because it isn't natural. Doesn't stop people being wrong. The only thing with dry food is that it is more essential to have fresh water available - this is essentialist though with wet or dry food.

thank you, you've convinced me to stick with what he has. It does look very boring though Grin

If your cat is happy to eat dry food it's fine as long as he drinks plenty of water as well. But you should get a good quality brand like Hills, Arden Grange, Royal Canin etc. (but not Iams because they do cruel experiments on cats in their labs). Yes, cats can get cystitis from eating dry food if they don't tend to drink a lot of water. My cat has had it at least 3 times for that reason. If your cat doesn't drink much, try putting a bowl of water in a different room to his food. Our cat hardly drank at all and now we have a water bowl upstairs and he drinks a lot more.

If you want to give the cat wet food the best food is something that has actual meat or fish in it rather than meat derivatives or byproducts. Hi Life is good as it's 60-70% real meat or fish. It's more pricey than stuff like Felix and Whiskas but less than the really post stuff like Applaws and the like. I have been told by several vets that having your cat on a permanent diet of Felix or Whiskas is the nutritional equivalent to feeding your child McDonalds every day. It isn't very nutritious and is quite fattening. My cat is on a diet as a result of being fed that stuff!

If your cat is happy enough on dry then I would keep it that way.

Unfortunately for me, my three all like a mix! One likes wet and dry, one likes wet only and the other will only eat dry!! Awkward lot!

I feed them purely for wet food and 1st class for dry. The youngest has a skin condition, which seems (but not proven) to be affected by certain foods and another with an anaemia auto immune disease, so have to make sure he eats properly!

Looking at getting porta 21 or bozita and orgien dry. But these are only available online, so working on that one!

Purina Gourmet Pearl. With gravy not jelly. Pouches only, never tins Blush

That will teach me for giving the cats a 'treat' one day.

One of the cats likes Purina one dry food better and the vet always comments on her lovely shiny fur.

Just saw Havingkittens post.
Do NOT buy Hi-Life.
Evil stuff nearly killed one of my kitties as there were fish bones in it...
