Just got a pedigree kitten, use whatever floor cleaner is close to hand when I shop so flash or CIF etc.
What is acceptable for use with cats.? Im aware that most are poison to cats but wondered what I should use..

Prefer to use an antibacterial one for hygeine purposes.. advice appreciated. x

TIA

Hot soapy water is as good a cleaner as any.

I use bleach in hot water (I know you're not supposed to do that). The thing is, my cats love rolling on the wet bleached floor and licking it! I checked with the vet and he said he'd never heard of cats doing that. I try and shut them out when I do it now though but they seem fine!

Don't use disinfectant - v. poisonous to cats. Hot soapy water is really, really, good - honest. I use that ecover stuff in the yellow bottle in water - all purpose cleaner, 'tis really excellent actually and smells great - I love it, most cleaners smell vile to me. You know, there is no real need to rid your floor of all germs, very hot water and whatever soap will do just as well and it is how they used to clean hospitals. Taking outdoor shoes off is a v. good idea too (although this is something of a contentious issue on MN I've noted). I did a science study at school once measuring how well we washed our hands - cold water rinse without soap = the worst, cold water with soap = okay-ish, hot water without soap = not great but better than the cold, hot water with soap = bingo, likely to kill most germs you would have on your hands (and possibly in your home?).
