Her vaccs are up to date, obviously going to take her to the vets tomorrow - any ideas?

Could be grass stuck at back of throat/nose.This causes a cat to sneeze and smell. Def needs the vet, let us know what is said tomorrow.

CarGirl · 20/09/2010 20:00

It is suspected to be grass as no other cold like symptoms.

We are going to give her a few more days and see if she improves before paying £££££££££££££££££££££££££££££ to have her put under whilst it gets fished out. She's still happy and eating and hopefully most/all of it has rotted away now

Hmmm, did you take her to the vet? This happened to my friends cat, over weeks the smell got worse, he stopped eating and she finally took him - vet sedated the cat and the grass was out, all within minutes.

The grass will not rot away, it will stay there, and it does cause pain and irritation to the cat, the same as a fish bone stuck in your throat.

You need to take her to the vet.

CarGirl · 21/09/2010 18:48

Yes we took her to the vet! Vet was happy to see how she went for a few days or so before sedating. I think she was happy to see how it goes as the smell was so much less yesterday - on Sunday I thought she'd had some sort of runny bum incident as it was that bad from 3 foot away.

The smell has gone but we are watching her closely to see if the sneezing remains or the smell returns. She's still muncing away happily and being her usual self.

Sorry, I did not realise you had seen the vet...aw well hopefuly she will be ok, my friends cat stopped eating and was very quiet and not his usual self at all, which ours does not sound like that.

Let us know how she goes.

CarGirl · 24/09/2010 21:48

Well £227 later she had the op today. The piece of grass is huge!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyway next problem is that her brother is now growling at her Sad

Is this normal, is it because she's still a bit woozy when she walks????

It's because she's wobbly. Put her in another room, keep her quiet. And kill the lawn and replace it with camomile, smells nicer, doesn't grow as much and doesn't choke the cat.

CarGirl · 24/09/2010 21:58

Sadly we have an open plan house!

We don't have a lawn Angry think I may try and grow some cat grass in a pot for her or something though!

Catmint is much better - they get sky high and don't range as far and just sit in your garden instead. You can't kill it either.

Have you a box she can sit in (or on) away from the other cat? Or can you drape a blanket over a chair so she can hide?

CarGirl · 24/09/2010 22:10

I don't think the growling is too bad, they are both scoffing at the moment but we've decided that we'll let them have the roam of the house tonight (usually barracaded in kitchen) which means we'll have to share our bed with them Hmm - they can open the door!

Oh well, I hope she has no long term side effects (other than having to live on gruel for three years to make up the vet costs!) Wink

Lovesdogsandcats · 26/09/2010 00:20

Thanks for the update- glad she's ok...bet the growling was partly due to her being wobbly, also the vet smell from the anaesthetic on her. Are they all fine today?

CarGirl · 26/09/2010 15:15

Yes back to normal and Lola is enjoying her extra wet food treats to get the antibiotics down her Grin.

I really hope it doesn't happen again!
