We have recently got two cats from the RSPCA and the smell when you come in through the front door is noticeable and not pleasant. They are using a little tray but I am keeping that really clean - it's more just a cat smell, not a poo smell.

Are there any particular natural air fresheners (not sprays but ones that work constantly by themselves) that work well with cat smells does anyone know?

TIA

Try using wood pellet cat litter instead of fullers earth type. It releases a pine smell when weed on, although you still need to whip the poo out pretty sharpish!

And for air fresheners, I like Avon room and linen sprays - they don't have that artificial smell that a lot of sprays have. Not sure I'd want a constant air freshener. Might be a bit much!

Try Purr and Simple cat litter, hardly any odour at all

Look here this page

My local pet shop started selling it recently and it's really a remarkable difference.

thanks walkersmum.

It's not the litter tray that is causing the smell though really (the litter tray is right by the back door), it's just the general smell of cats when you walk through the front door.

The cats themselves don't smell any differently to any other cat I've ever met and I'll probably get used to the smell but I still don't want it if possible, as other people will obviously notice it when they come to the front door. I'm not being prissy - I love the cats and all that goes with them but if I can remove the general odour, that would be great.

Are they spraying and you haven't noticed? Cats don't usually smell, unless they spray. We have some crystal-type cat litter which doesn't smell at all - just chuck the poo down the loo, give it a stir and it lasts 3-4 weeks before you have to change it.

I can smell my cat, it's not a nasty smell, you just know which room he spends most of his time in. Best thing is to open windows whenever possible, and I use one of those plug in things to mask it a bit. Hope that helps.
