My cat is refusing food

She has always been fussy but she is missing a couple of meals as she is either tasting a bit and then walking off or not even trying it at all. She is relatively well in herself in that the illness she has doesn't affect her eating.

I have just looked and she has a small amount of breakfast and left it.

I try and give her a variety plus she gets different foods as we can never remember what she likes as she changes her mind, but I have read they don't need variety. Confused

Maybe this morning, she's just not that hungry.

Does she go out overnight? Maybe she had a real bumper night and caught 4 mice, and now she feels the equivalent of having been to the all you can eat Chinese or Indian!!

Unless she has other health problems, don't worry about one breakfast. How old is she?

Ah pants, I scrolled too far. Thought your second post was your first!!

Sorry - I'll just go and read again :-O

She is 16 and has missed 3 meals now in that she has had none of it or a small amount. She ate her biscuits at bedtime though and always does that.

Have you tried her with a bit of "real meat"? Would she normally accept a food treat like that, before this spate of refusal started?

I also have read that cats don't need variety, but think about how opportunic they can be when they are outside? I think a lot of cats don't mind a varied diet, but like yours some are a bit more selective, just like humans.

Not sure what to suggest really except to try hand feeding her some ham or chicken if you've got any, and that might get her appetite going. I would think that if it continues till Monday, you might wanna think about a visit to the vet.

I think the biscuit eating is a good sign; perhaps don't put any wet food down the next time you would normally, and see if she asks for it.

She usually gets chicken on a Sunday when we have a roast and always eats that. We don't give her a lot though as we need to keep her weight steady.

She asks for tea from 2pm onwards though appears a bit less vocal about it.

She is due her annual jabs soon so I will make the appointment for next week and ask the vet then

Thanks all :).
