Sleeping bag recommendations

Hi, I’m looking for recommendations for sleeping bags please. For DD, who is almost 10 and tall. Initially to be used for a Brownie sleepover but will be moving to Guides soon and going camping, maybe DofE in the future.

I’m thinking an adult size one, maybe 2/3 season? I got my adult sized one in my early teens though.

What's your budget? I have moved from sleeping bags to quilts, which are lighter and just as warm

The big decision is whether your bag is synthetic or down. Down is lighter but doesn't keep you warm if it gets wet

The prices are shocking! I cannot believe there are some that cost £200+!

I was thinking more (well) under £100 and fairly basic, as long as it’ll squash down enough to be packed in a rucksack.

There are some that cost almost £1000!

You DD is unlikely to be taken anywhere in the near future where she is concerned about being much too cold or having to carry huge weights for a long distance.

I'd be looking for a second hand one, if I was you. Fb marketplace or ebay. You'll want one with a comfort level (heat rating) of 10°c or less ('comfort level' - not 'comfort limit' or just 'limit'). It should weigh less than a kilo. Good quality but reasonably priced brands are decathlon and Alpkit

For this stage you can go cheaper - ours had Outwell Campion (can’t remember if lux or normal) sleeping bags, £35 ish. They’ve been great. Only upgrading to a more expensive lighter weight one now he’s doing more extensive lightweight megahikes with explorers. Def get an adult full size one. Down is more expensive but lighter weight, but also worse if it gets at all wet. The outwell campion ones are quite generously sized and have a slight hood bit - they’re also soft inside rather than slippy fabric which is a bit cosier. 1.2kg which isn’t too bad - not super lightweight but that gets a lot pricier. They’re both over 6ft now and still happy to use those bags.

You can also get scouting discounts with many outdoor stores - I know millets, blacks, Cotswold outdoors maybe?
