Bike locks

Any recommendations for a really good bike lock? I know none are completely theft proof. I’ve just bought myself an electric bike and need to do the best I can to prevent it from being stolen outside of the library, shop, cafe etc, also to secure it in my shed

Thanks, yes I did have a Quick Look at that list - is that the sort of one that insurance companies expect? I’ve never had a
bike worth much more than the cost of that lock before!

I e got an Oxford chain lock from Halfords for £30 but they do better ones - it’s just the weight increases

then a krypton type lock so I can double lock the bike

thief want to be quick- so using two locks will hopefully put them off

You need to look at the insurance requirements. My electric bike needed a sold secure gold lock. I got the kryponite lock above but there were some in halfords for £30ish. See if you need bronze, silver, gold or diamond

There is however no lock that a thief with a angle grinder (which round my way many of them carry) can't get through in under 2 minutes. Always use 2 locks (through both wheels, frame, and something immovable) and leave your bike somewhere busy in daylight hours only.

It's the removable parts which are most at risk. My dh has had the saddle on his bike stolen 3 times. I do wonder what the saddle market is like in our town to make this worth their time!

Kryptonite are the best and have been for some time. Not all of their locks are gold secure though if that's what you need.

The fahgettaboutit one is good because it's small - makes it more difficult for someone to use force to pop it.

Always use two locks, maybe one chain, one D lock. Consider using the quick release to take your front wheel off and put the skewer in your bag. Anything that deters the casual thief is helpful.

Think carefully about what you lock it to - pro thieves sometimes cut the stand rather than the lock as the lock is much more difficult. Look for cctv and solid steel bike stands.

Many thanks, 2 locks is a good idea
Yes ive added the bike to my insurance
Such a shame the excitement of a new bike is tempered by fear of theft
Like a lot of towns we have good cycle lanes but high theft rate
