We're moving to a house only accessible by a rough dirt track road and think my current bike won't be up to the job.
Does anyone have any suggestions for electric or hybrid bikes suitable for off road and town use?

Anything with 35mm tyres or wider. So pretty much all hybrid and gravel bikes. Get a hybrid and fit mudguards. Giant escape, carrera subway or similar from other brands.

A 'road' bike with narrower tyres won't break, but wider tyres will give you more comfort and grip on dirt track.

Thanks Rollercoaster that's so helpful and will have a look armed with that info as I wasn't sure where to start.
I've ridden my bike there and it survived but was not very comfortable!

I went full mountain e bike for a mile of rough track I do every day, rest (5 miles) is on the road. It is much heavier as a result but I love the bike!

I think it slightly depends on how rough and how long your track is as to how much I would go one way or the other.

Do you mind me asking which bike you chose Roughcat?
Our track is much shorter- quarter of a mile I guess, but we are surrounded by countryside with other rough tracks I might want to go on occasionally

It is a Liv Vall E+. I like it as it is the right size for me. It is great off road, but with the weight of it you get people with road bikes flying past you everywhere that isn't uphill or properly off road.

For me quarter of a mile would be enough to want an mtb but if it isn't too rough I would go gravel. I would go to a few local bike shops and try a few out. If you go for an e bike I would buy from a local shop as I have been surprised by how much mine gets through brakes and chains. Get a chain checker too because you can damage other parts if you let it get overdue. Mine gets a lot of stress because of a long steep hill that is part of my everyday route, but going from a normal bike I was surprised.

All that said I am really pleased with it so don't let any of that put you off. I use the e bike far more than my previous one and it still makes me smile every day a few years in.
