Suggestions for new walking boots

I want to get some new boots in time for our holiday later this year. For some boggy hill walking mostly. I'm looking for lightweight and waterproof and with great ankle support as both ankles are shot basically and i roll over on them quite a lot. I have wide feet, basically square. I've got time to shop around. Any ideas? I'm not too fussed re budget if we can find the boot of dreams.

The best boots are one's that fit. Other people's feet are not a good guide to your own. Go and try various boots on. Cotswold are good for this but there may be other stores local to you.

Thinking about it a bit more, the thing that made the most difference for me was a pair of walking poles. I'm young and was too proud to get proper -old people- walking poles so got very lightweight trail running ones. They take just enough weight off that when my ankles go the wrong way my weight doesn't force them into a full twist and I can recover it. They make hiking so much more enjoyable because I don't have to think about every single step.

@StamppotAndGravy yes I got walking poles two years ago, made a huge difference to me and to my confidence too

I ended up in men's Merrells to get the width I needed but they're fantastic and really comfortable.

DH and DS both have very wide and high arched feet and wear Meindl comfort fit after many, many tries. I wear Meindl walking shoes, but Salomon or Hoka boots though in the Hokas I wear support insoles to stabilise my crap feet

Inov8 also have some wide fit (widths marked on their website!) Second Merrell MOAB.

I have Salomon Gore tex ones. They are so lightweight in comparison with other boots I tried on. So comfortable I didn't need to break them in, just hiked in them from day one. They have survived boggy marshland, clay, mud, rocky mountain crags. I love them. They look narrow but I have wide feet and they never pinch or rub. I have weak ankles too and the ankle support is high but nit restrictive - really good.

I have their walking shoes too - lightweight and so comfortable from day 1.

I agree. Once you learn to use them properly they are incredible, especially for speed and balance going downhill. I bought cheap lightweight telescopic ones from Amazon and they have survived the Three Peaks..
