Hiking trainers

I'm after a pair of hill walking trainers for summer. Must be gortex to keep my feet dry. Does anyone have any recommendations?

I've seen a few but they all remind me of boys school shoes or seem to be crazy neon colours.

I also have wide feet which rules out a lot of brands.

Any suggestions please?

I'm interested too. Concerned about lack of ankle support though.

I ended up getting a pair of mens' in black from North Face.

Similar to these:

I can't help with recommendations for footwear that suits women's feet, but I will advise to buy some thick walking socks first, so that you can wear them when trying on footwear. Also, make sure there is plenty of room in front of your toes, or your toes and toenails will slam into the front of the footwear on any steep descents. Some shops (Cotswold Outdoor perhaps) actually have small ramps in store so that you can check for this kind of thing.

It doesn't sound like the OP is a novice hiker. But thanks for the mansplain.

I find the ankle support worry that often comes up quite funny as you have people running mountain ranges all over the world in super lightweight trainers with 0 ankle support.

I wouldn’t worry tbh

I would have posted the same advice in any forum, regardless of whether the membership was majority women, majority men, or a more even balance.

Fine. But a woman wouldn't.

I'm not a woman.

@YorkshireDude

We'd noticed. The mansplaining gave you away 😂

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 22/05/2022 16:33

Keen and Scarpa are good for wide feet. Scarpa fit me slightly better. If you can, go and try a few pairs on and see how different brands/styles fit you. Most outdoor retailers have a rocky ramp to try shoes and boots on.
I currently have these

How is it mansplaining if I would have posted the same advice to anyone on any forum, regardless of whether the asker was a woman or a man? I really don't care whether the asker is a man or a woman, because I'm not interested in identity politics. The only people worrying about identities are those actively seeking to get offended and outraged about something. That kind of behaviour is divisive and doesn't benefit anyone.

Girlintheframe · 24/05/2022 08:02

Thanks all.

I tried some scarpa shoes for rock climbing and found them impossibly small, maybe trainers will be different.

Will also have a look at Keen.

Anyone tried the Salomond trainers? They keep coming up on my search.

How do you make those nice neat links??

botharna · 24/05/2022 08:39

I have wide feet and wear Saucony Peregrines which I find have a better grip than my Merrells

averythinline · 24/05/2022 08:42

Keen are good and now have a lightweightish pair but have a very stiff sole which may/maynot suit whst you want..
Ive just bought a pair of meindl which are more flexible and have wide toe box as well..
Also tried a really good pair of merrell which had a more supportive inner but were slightly too narrow...
All at cotswold outdoor....not connected just the first place that had a choice! Taunton leisure had some too and scarpa

RainingYetAgain · 24/05/2022 08:48

Sorry, tried to copy, but can't on my phone. I've got narrow feet and have been recommended Salomond walking boots, and tried some on, which weren't the widest I tried. Not sure if different widths are available, or it's a case where there is a lit if difference between sizes

Augend23 · 27/05/2022 07:57

I have wide feet and am also a Merrell fan.

I like the Merrell Accentor.
