Outdoor Waterproofs....Recommendations?

I am looking for some recommendations for good outdoor rain gear for my daughter. I know about the Scandi brands but they feel expensive and a lot of the big name outdoor brands don't really seem to design for kids. Any thoughts? Any good British brands?

I would buy whatever they sell at Sports Direct, tbh. Or something 2nd hand on Ebay. Mountain Warehouse, Cotswold, Go Outdoors all ok, too. No idea which one sells British manufac'd.

Oh, Decathlon, too, but esp. unlikely to be British I guess.

What will she be doing in them? If she's planning on walking up mountains, she needs good ones (have done fellwalking in the wet in cheap waterproofs and it was awful).

On the other hand, if she's a toddler wanting to splash in puddles, a less expensive set will be fine!

For young children (under 8 ish), Lidl's waterproofs are excellent and super cheap. The problem is that they don't sell them all the time, only in certain weeks.

My children do Forest School and these by far outperform many other brands and most of the children have these now.

Muddy Puddles are a good brand for something a bit more expensive.

I didn't think DS's MuddyPuddle trousers were anything special.

Anyway, my kids all HATE waterproof trousers so getting them to wear a jacket with hood was as much as we ever achieved.

What is DS?

DS= (My) Darling/Dastardly Son... it's a common contraction on MN.

Thanks! Still learning the lingo :)

and note the difference between waterproof and showerproof when you're buying "waterproofs", depending on why you need them. Showerproof ok for an emergency just in case jacket - Holidays in Scotland - waterproof waterproofs required!

As a cub leader I always recommend a style that can be put on and taken off without removing footwear.

It's so much easier not to have to unlace walking boots and remove them when
Waterproofs are needed in a hurry.
