Snowdonia

Off to Snowdonia, near Croesor in April. Looking for ideas for days out with an 8 month old. It's me, dh and dd. We have a framed child carrier backpack, a baby carrier where dd is strapped to my chest and an all terrain pushchair.

I started a thread in Chat before we got this fancy new home, where the general consensus seemed to be don't attempt Snowdon with a baby.

We do like stunning countryside, beaches, wildlife and bird spotting, pubs with real ale, beautiful views, a bit of history etc etc.

Any ideas would be most appreciated, thanks

Well, what an amazing part of the world! The combination of mountains, coast and forest was perfect for us!

Cnicht - we got about two thirds of the way up with dd in the backpack, but the weather then turned and the path got a bit 'scrambly' and it stopped feeling safe, so we headed back down. Amazing views though and it would have been great to get to the top without dd.

Coed y Brenin - big forest area where we did about 7 or 8 miles with dd on backpack. That place is huge and lovely waterfalls.

Aberglaslyn pass and Cwm bychan was my favourite walk I think. Dd loved it in the front baby carrier thing, I had to be very careful on the stone steps near the water but it was worth it and didn't feel dangerously risky. As we headed up the mountain near the copper mine the sun came out and the views were amazing!

Black rock sands was a great beach as you all said. Pretty deserted due to rain and strong winds but we had a great bracing time! Criccieth where again it was pissing it down but we stopped there for a bit and I'd like to visit again for the ice-cream shop.

Harlech was lovely as you all said - we only had a brief visit as dd needed to get back but would definitely return for a longer look at the castle.

Things we planned but didn't get round to were the slate caverns, train up Snowdon, Portmeirion, we had 4 nights that ended up being 3 days because of the travelling, packing etc on the first and last day (gone are the days of just grabbing stuff, jumping in the car and getting there ASAP now dd is here)

We're already planning when we can return. I'd also like to see more of Conwy - it was a good rest point for us but it was chucking it down so we had fish and chips in the car and then decided just to get home. It looked well worth a potter about though

Oh and if anyone saw my link to the cottage we stayed in I would highly highly recommend it. I couldn't fault it at all - views of the sea in one direction and mountains in the other - for what it was I think the price was extremely reasonable.

This is somewhere I have wanted to visit for a long time. DD did some Duke of Edinburgh stuff there and loved it. Now we have a motorhome & canoe I can see us booking for next year! (This years hols are already sorted).

Thanks for all your tips. :)
