Hi nice new topic so thought I'd ask a relevant q.

plannning a 3 peaks attempt in May - off tomorrow to do a timed climb up Snowdon with the rest of our group (abandoning dcs with dh Grin)

Anyone done the challenge and have you any words of wisdom for someone who thought it was a good idea over several Wine at Christmas?

its gonna hurt isn't it?

Is this the 3 Peaks in 24 hours? If so DH did it many years ago - started with Snowdon at night, then Scafell Pike, then Ben Nevis.
You need a comfortable fast car!

whojamaflip · 23/03/2012 17:30

Yep thats the one! Have a driver (stb bil) and we are going in his Izuzu - drove to Switzerland in it 2 years ago and it was pretty comfortable so no worries there.

I think we are doing it the other way round - Ben Nevis first (its furthest away), then Scafell and finishing at Snowdon.

I have a thread in sports and exercise asking exactly the same thing!!

My friend has suggested the Wales3000 but that appears to be evern harder than the 3 peaks!

back again

cantfind When are you planning on going? Our aim is the second weekend in May - hoping for reasonably clear weather as the moon should be only just past full so will help on the night climb - not sure which peak that will be yet - haven't finalised all the details.

I did many a few years ago but the opposite way, started with Snowdon. Glad you've got a comfy car, we had a mini bus so no sleep. Best advice is make sure your boots/ shoes are completely broken in, mine weren't and I ended up with blood blisters. Take plenty of sweets, raisins and things like chocolate to keep in your pockets for snacks.
Don't know which route you're doing on Scarfell but if you go up the quick steep route (can't remember its name sorry) there's a lot of scree near the top so be prepared for a bit of slipping and sliding about. there's also a nice pub if you accidentally turn the wrong way out of the car park
Head torch also useful if you've got early starts/ late finishes.

Good luck!
It doesn't hurt at all Hmm

whojammaflip - we are still at the talking drunken stage at the moment. Grin

Not sure I have enough time to train - are you training for it?

I would need to buy some walking boots and persuade dh that it is a good idea that he loks after the children for 2 days

This is what I love about mnet - proper advice from people who actually know! Smile

Fuzzy - boots are broken in - have been using them for about 6 mths and I've even bought a spare pair in case my fav ones get absolutely soaked - and they have been pretty much broken. Will defo get loads of chocolate energy food too. Re Scafell - we're planning to climb it sometime in April as another training run so will see which route but would guess we will be heading for the fastest one. Would it have more scree than Ben Nevis?

cantfind I'm afraid I've got mum to come and sit the kids. Training has been a little eratic due to poorly dcs but I'm feeling ok about it all. I have been following this training program.

Thunder I'm trying to persuade dh to be the co-driver at the mo.

Are you doing an organised group or are you navigating yourself?

cleanandclothed · 23/03/2012 20:33

get a car that has took for all the people plus one or two spare seats. the drives are long and you don't want to get squashed and stiff.

whojamaflip · 23/03/2012 20:39

Not going with an organised group - its just me and sil1, her dp and (hopefully) my dh as drivers. sil2 wants to come with her friend but she will be in her own car with her dp as driver. (also not sure I could put up with her in the car as well as on the climbs Grin)

It seemed like a really good challenge when we first thought of it and tbh I'm actually looking forward to it. We all have our own individual causes we are raising money for as well.

cleanandclothed using a 7 seater Izuzu Trooper with 4 of us travelling in it so "should" be ok. Don't think I'll have much trouble sleeping during the transfer drives Smile

Well we did Snowdon yesterday and I must say I am surprised I'm not hurting more today - I know I've done something but I'm not crippled! Grin

Bottom to top in 2hrs 5 mins and down in 1hr 20 so we were well under the 4 hour target. Mind you its the last peak on the challenge (doing Ben Nevis first and ending in Wales) so I doubt very much we will do it as fast on the day.
