JaneMare · 03/03/2012 12:56

where do you get yours from?

DD needs about a UK size 10 (child) but many our local Outdoorsy Shite shop only stock 13 upwards..

any recommendations that might be suitable as a 1st pair?

TIA

We've had Meindl Magic ones and Timberland but you may find Regatta or Peter Storm suit your budget better given how quickly kids can grow. Decathlon do smallish ones.Try Little Trekkers or here or try a Trespass or Columbia shop at an outlet village

I buy them second hand on Ebay. You can get some great bargains as they're generally only worn a few times before being outgrown. How about these?

Failing that we have bought at Go Outdoors.

We currently have all the sizes from 3 (DD) down to 11 (DS) with a few half sizes too. I only buy colours for DD that DS will be able to wear too but she doesn't mind.

We have bought various brands. The most popular with the kids being Merrell. Peter Storm have a habit of wearing out at the heel inside but maybe that's because we do some BIG walks!

Size 10? Your DD must be quite little. I always just put them in trainers or wellies at that size - they can do most things in trainers really. It's also best to have them walking in something they're used to as it's less likely to rub, and walking boots can be very rigid on small feet.

Sports Direct! My DCs have had several pairs of Karrimor boots (sizes 11,13,1,3) which were around £15 each. At that price I don't mind if they grow out of them in 10 months (NB get them a size larger to allow for thick socks)

We got some really nice ones at our local outlet village from one of the Mountainy shops. Lots of choice of smaller sizes, about half price.

Smallest had some size 10s, I think.

He currently has a pair of these:

which are very grippy and good for climbing rocks.

I got DD some size 10's from Millets, also try Ebay.

another vote for sports direct, plenty of choice here

JaneMare - I have a pair of size 10 which my DS only wore a few weeks last year. They are not too beaten up Smile. PM me if you'd like them, and I can send them over. They're these but the velcro ones.

hi all

it's the OP here (NC again) sorry, i couldn't reply to all the recent suggestions, we've just spent the last 3 days in the Peak District Grin

yes, DD is quite small - 4.9 yrs but is a great climber/walker but has additional needs and tends to panic and was finding wellies too slippery.

i got her a pair from the Mountain Warehouse, waterproof, great grips and purple Wink

thanks for the kind offer though Pesky

Thanks

DS had a pair of size 11 gelert walking boots when his shoes were still a size 10, he needs new boots now, his size 12 trainers are too tight across the toes. not sure what size boots he will end up with, depends which ones have a wide toe box I suspect.

UniS · 04/04/2012 23:30

took the boy boot shopping today. Gelert still have a nice wide boot available. The Johncliffe boots he tried on were immediately NOT fitting as they were much narrower. Found the right boot after only 3 attempts. Hurrah.

Jack Wolfskin do some at about £40. DS just got his second pair - size 28. He had them in a size 26 (8?) though. Can order online from Stewart Cunningham outdoor shops - they have shops in Lakes and some other places. Easy to fit yourself as the insole comes out. Put childs foot on it and see if it's in the bit marked OK or smiley face. Woman in the shop did this to fit his first pair so I was happy enough to do it myself second time round. I think they come up a bit small in general.
