The dog is giving me a nervous breakdown

We put our old rescue dog down. She had never been clean in the house but we dealt with it for 8 years because we loved her and no one else would have taken her on, we just washed her, bedding and floor pretty much every day. To be honest it was a relief to put her down at 13 years old.
we then got a puppy from a rescue centre. He was quite delayed as he was the runt. He is now nearly 4 and is developing incontinence. He was never consistently clean, he does a poo or two sometimes pee in the night. Often poos in his bed and sleeps on it. This is now becoming every night. He is in the utility room at night with puppy pads. This morning I had to wash him, the bed, the floor the bath as he was so covered. I have two disabled children who have lots of appointments. The toddler is non verbal and has very poor mobility. She is heavy and I have to basically change, feed and bottle her a lot day and night. I am a carer for both kids and it can be full on. My eldest struggles to attend school full time and I am trying to get toddler into a suitable nursery.
the dog is causing me so much cleaning every morning and so much extra work and cost. He is not great with the vet anymore as he has already had so much treatment for a broken leg and for his allergies which are now under control. I have taken him to the vet about this issue.
the vet said she can see his spine is not great which is common with this breed. Inability to housetrain is also common with him (frenchie).
I have just spent 270 on more wipes and puppy pads, a new bed as washing it every day has made it disintegrate. More dog shampoo and more medication. He is also on special food and a hefty insurance bill so he is very expensive but that is not the main issues the issue is that my utility room and kitchen are a dog kennel and I have a stressful life anyway with the kids.
I honestly feel at the end of my tether today as it is now every day. Before the kids eat the dog has to be sorted and the washing machine is on every day for the dog.
I think the accumulation is making me crack up.
I feel like I have no patience left and no one is getting any attention because I am so pissed off at another huge poonami every morning.
if he just did it on the sea of pads that would be a godsend but he does it on himself, the bedding as well.
I feel like the kids and me come second best.
we all love the dog putting him down is the last thing I want to do.
I intend to call the vet again and discuss it with her.
I really need some advice and perspective. He is not good with people or other animals. When we go on holiday I have to pay extra to the dog sitter as she has to do all this as well.
please can I have some advice I can’t see the wood for the trees.

Dogs that are peeing and pooing overnight are usually anxious because they are sleeping alone. He needs company, he's a pack animal. Bring him to your room and then if he does wake, you'll be able to let him outside.

Well yes, it’s not at all necessary is it? This is not an old dog, or a dog in pain. This is a young dog who may just need to sleep in with its owner and have some intensive training.

If you’re not getting any support from the rescue you got him from try any of the brilliant breed specific rescues. Frenchie and Friends are a great one, I bet they’d offer you advice. www.frenchieandfriends.org

Speak to your vet. Deteriorating toilet issues could very easily be related to his spinal problems as dogs can sometimes loose sensation and awareness that they need to go to the loo with these problems

I am a dog lover and I think people don't always persevere enough with their dogs, in particular.

However, enough is honestly enough..it's clear you are struggling to cope practically, emotionally and probably financially.
Frenchies, from what I've read are a dodgy breed in terms of health anyway.

You have enough on your plate with your family. Maybe try and find a Frenchie Rescue to take him. It's really not fair on anyone.

Tillsforthrills · 11/11/2022 13:36

Prioritise your family and your mental health.

Choconut · 11/11/2022 13:50

Why don't you take him back to the rescue and say you can't cope with him and explain the issues. You can't go like this for the forseeable.
Have you tried putting puppy pads in his bed? I don't know if that might help a bit in the meantime.

MultiTulip · 11/11/2022 13:59

You need to speak to a breed rescue, but realistically this doesn’t sound like a rehomeable dog. There’s no way you can cope with this and two disabled kids though. Do you have a partner? What do they do to help?

Rehome the dog x

bozzabollix · 11/11/2022 14:06

This is a long shot but worth a go. My elderly dog’s incontinence has radically improved by changing her food to Burns. It’s pricey but no longer are we getting up to the same thing you are, and she seems better in herself. Worth a go!

Although I've advocated giving the dog up..apropos of this post I feed my dog on raw food and his toilet habits are minimal now..more like chalk or when they've been eating bones, maybe change of diet might help if that's your main issue.

The most likely cause of this poor dogs issue with toileting is medical.
rather than telling the op to rehome or pts, posters should be pointing her at the VETS for a medical diagnosis first

Shelby2010 · 12/11/2022 12:03

As other posters have suggested, a change in diet might help. Also look at the timing/frequency of meals. Most dogs seem to poo at regular intervals unless they are distressed or have medical problems. I guess you need to work out which it is.

OP has said that she had been to the vet numerous times.

ChChange · 12/11/2022 13:28

@Undisclosedlocation shes said she’s already been to the vets and is also going to speak with them again.

Hello thanks all so much for your replies. Me and dh have had a chat about everything. Yesterday I took him for a walk and his back end is raised and skippy. I massaged him on his back and back legs and he enjoyed it and didn’t seem in any pain. I have done some reading online.
I think he may have disc issues which are common with the breed and don’t always result in pain. I think he is becoming incontinent.
this morning dh got up with him and he had peed all over himself and bed. It is getting worse and I will get him to vets ASAP on Monday. I will be asking for an x ray possibly an mri he is insured to a high level.
I think there is a possible nerve, neurological, disc issue with him.
the aggression towards people is also something that has been building and I am not sure if that is related or not.
thanks again for all your replies.
mumsnet posted this thread twice for some reason so I am also going to reply in the other one.
can I also say that frenchie rescues are full of aggressive dogs with serious medical conditions because of the overbreeding.
